Youth Development Services
Provides Youth Development Services for Southeast Asian students
(Laotion, Cambodian, Chinese, Vietnamese and Hmong), 9th through
12th grades. M-F 3 pm - 5 pm. Academic tutoring, mentoring and sports,
field trips and career exploration activities, focus group meetings
with families, help youths from dropping out of school, complete
high school; assist with college access opportunities; help and
counsel parents to cope with juvenile problems. Provides STAT 9
tutoring for 11th graders. Programs are located at John Bartram
High School, 67th and Elmwood, PA 19142 and South Philadelphia High
School, Broad and Synder, PA 19148 respectively.
Truancy Intervention Services
Provides Truancy Intervention Services to Asian youths (Laotian, Cambodian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Hmong) attending the 12 schools in Bartram Cluster, School District of Philadelphia. Provides truancy intervention; family capacity building; community advocacy and development partnership activities to work together with the regional courts, respective schools and client families.
Youth Violence Prevention Services
Provides Youth Violence Prevention Services to court-decreed, court-referred youths, juvenile delinquents, community-based agency referrals, regional truancy court referrals, School District of Philadelphia referrals, out of school youths, and teenage parents. Program is designed as an alternative education program comprising of GED classes, computer classes, job readiness skills, conflict resolution and mediation, filmmaking and equine projects. Young people are linked up with jobs after completion of program. Services Southeast Asian youths (Laotian, Cambodian, Chinese, Vietnamese and Hmong). Program is located at 4601 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19139. Program runs on a 12 months cycle. M-F 11 am to 7 pm.
Translation and Interpretation Services
In addition to the various direct services the Family and Youth Department also provides translation services for the Department of Human Services so that the Southeast Asian community can directly access the divisions programs and services. This service not only further strengthens SEAMAACs tie to city agencies, but also encourages community members to step beyond the traditional boundaries of services. SEAMAAC is pleased to offer such services in effort to encourage our clients in acquiring services and increase self-sufficiency.
