SDCC Tours
Here you will find information on SDCC's tours, past, present, and future.
The Valley Tour
(8/29/02-10/23/02)
SDCC's first tour since their regrouping, and the tour that made the world catch on to their style. The two month, twelve stop tour had its ups and downs, but in the end it was at least successful in as much as it let the world know about SDCC.
Blue Ridge Community College (AUG 29)
The first stop on SDCC's tour actually saw them playing as the support band for Multindra. At this point the band only had a few songs ready, and so the first stop didn't go over too well, although a few critics now thought the band had potential.
Harrisonburg High School (SEP 4)
SDCC's next stop also didn't go as well as they would have liked. Again they suffered from a lack of songs to play, and their main song, "It Was A Very Good Beer," was not well-recieved.
Eastern Mennonite High School (SEP 7)
After two unsuccessful concerts, the band had its first success at the massive, 19-band EMU Fall Concert. Introducing their newest song, "The Food Critic," the band finally started to get good reviews. As a result they were invited to play at Broadway on September 11th.
Broadway High School (SEP 11)
For this concert held to honor whatever it was that happened on September 11th, SDCC joined up with the Jamaican ska band T.A. Knights. The two bands played their shows, then played "It Was A Very Good Beer (Extended Version)" together in a smash finale. Unfortunately, it was T.A. Knights who stole the show; SDCC's part of the concert was terrible, and only the finale saved the concert from being a total washout. Discouraged, the band almost quit the tour right then.
Stuarts Draft High School (SEP 18)
The letdown of the previous concert meant nothing after SDCC returned to their hometown. Playing once again in support of Multindra, the band's performance was their best ever. Even after the main attraction Multindra had finished, the audience demanded an encore from SDCC.
Massanetta Springs (SEP 25)
After the band has risen high in its last appearance, it immediately fell back again at this one. The band's performance was definately sub-par and their new song, "Smooth And Creamy" was absolutely hated by the crowd.
Blue Ridge Community College (SEP 28)
SDCC returned to Blue Ridge for the Augusta County Band Festival/ Cross Country Invitational, a ten-band concert. This is where the band's immortal performance of "The Baseketball Song" took place, and the band was ranked 4th out of 10 bands at the concerts. After this success, the band would not look back for the rest of the tour.
Rockbridge County High School (OCT 2)
This would be a defining day in SDCC's existence. The concert itself went as well as could be expected (if slightly forgettable), but it was after the concert was over that O'Neil, Thomas, and Carper got together and composed the song which would be the band's single greatest hit, "Pornography Aisle."
Stuarts Draft High School (OCT 14)
After taking the longest break of the tour, (during which "Pornography Aisle" was selling like mad) the band returned home for the first of two concerts in one week. This time, they were the main attraction, and the concert was a success. (Though the band was arrestted the next day for their antics.)
Stuarts Draft High School (OCT 17)
The second home concert in a week, the band stayed true to form and were once again a smash, despite the freezing temperatures. This was the debut of "Knights Of The Round Table."
Virginia School For The Deaf And Blind (OCT 23)
For the next stop on the Valley Tour, SDCC played at the Valley District Festival along with 8 other local bands. Performing such hits as "Pornography Aisle" and "Knights Of The Round Table," it was yet another success for the band.
Panorama Farms (NOV 7)
This final stop on the tour was added at the last minute, which probably wasn't a good idea. In fact in hindsight, this was definately least successful ventures. Several members could not even make it to the concert, and as the band had no new material, the show was essentially a failure. (Although the SDCC Girls were thrilled to have a good look at a young man from Faquier High School's buttocks.)
Although the tour ended on a low note, overall it was a successful venture and now SDCC was becoming famous. The songs the band played on this tour are for the most part featured on the album "Blood Makes The Grass Grow."
The Indoor Tour
(1/4/03-2/21/03)
After the success of their first tour and album, and upon the release of their secret project "Blood Makes The Grass Grow Volume 7," SDCC embarked on a tour of indoor stadiums. Brass player Jonathan Rexrode contracted whooping cough before the tour, and was therefore unable to accompany the band on any of their concerts. The tour was also marked by cancellations, as originally there were ten stops planned, but due to winter weather only six were made.
Eastern Mennonite University (JAN 4)
Right after the release of "Volume 7," SDCC played at EMU, performing their "Volume 7" set live. The concert went quite well, and "Volume 7" started flying off the shelves.
"The Pit" at VMI (JAN 11)
A week after their first stop, SDCC played the famous "Pit" at VMI. The concert was another hit; not as big as the EMU show but a good one nonetheless. (Though drummer O'Neil still feels like they should've given the band prize money.)
Fort Defiance High School (FEB 1)
After many cancellations, SDCC finally was able to procure a concert at the place they hated the most: Fort Defiance. Things went wrong from the start. The new songs that SDCC tried out (with the exception of "Mario Twins") simply did not go over well. Not only was this actually an outdoor show in the extreme cold, but the band made the mistake of playing "Fort Defiance". The locals rushed the stage and started a riot, and SDCC high-tailed it out of their and decided never to return. This was so far the only blemish on the Indoor Tour.
Eastern Mennonite University (FEB 8)
Quite possibly SDCC's best performance ever. Showing talent never before seen, the band rocked the arena in their return to EMU. Sales were boosted by the various guests the band used for their songs: former Evan Kays and the Cougars member Josh Ott played bass in place of the absent Lichtenstein and Jeremy Rowe as the guest lead singer for "Bohemian Rhapsody" and a few other songs.
Fork Union Military Academy (FEB 12)
Another big success for SDCC. Highlights of the show included "Pornography Aisle", "FJB", "Bohemian Rhapsody" (again with Jeremy Rowe) and an impromptu performance of "Smooth And Creamy". In fact the crowd (except for the one who shall here be known only as Faggotty Dad) loved the band so much that by popular demand the band will be making one last stop, at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA.
Virgina Tech (FEB 21)
Returning to a place where Evan Kays and the Cougars had once played, Brad O'Neil came to Rector Fieldhouse to play a short concert before a sellout crowd. However, all the other members could not make to the concert (they didn't "qualify") except Jarrod Thomas who decided "Fuck school" and came anyway. The other eight spots on the stage where filled by random Group AA indoor track runners, and O'Neil and Thomas were pleased to say that no one noticed. (In fact the band actually sounded better.) This final stop was a good one for the "band," and if nothing else this was certainly the largest crowd the band had ever played for.
The Indoor Tour was quite the smash for the band, not only because of the sellout performances, but because along the way SDCC has written enough new material to produce the third album, "Mr. Bowman's Magic Spatula."
SDCC is currently on the Springtime Tour.
The Springtime Tour
(3/19/03-5/22/03?)
This tour was put together despite SDCC's splitting up for various other projects. The fans wanted another tour before SDCC's planned major fall tour, and so they got one. This a tentative schedule. Depending on how the tour goes, the band may add a few more stops. Information will be added as each date approaches.
Stuarts Draft High School (MAR 19)
SDCC's first Springtime concert took place in very un-spring-like conditions. Appearances were made by such famous groups as freezing cold, sub-zero temperatures, and blinding rain. Apart from that though it went all right. The rap group Da Hiz-ornetz performed a short show prior to the main event, as did the last second addition, The Marine Corps Band.
Stuarts Draft High School (MAR 26)
Also starts at 5:00pm. Featuring once again the Alleghenys. Rumors are currently circulating that this concert will be moved to that place we hate, Fort Defiance High School. If so, then SDCC will certainly hope to win over the crowd better than they did on the February 1st concert there.
