How Come I “Know” Gwen Baugh, Me
(or “I Remember Gwendolyn”)
Directors Cut:
One day, between the high school regional and state meets, I checked
Thefacebook to find that I had been poked by “Gwen Baugh (JMU)” Wondering “Who
the hell is that?” I figured whatever and gave her a virtual poke back.
A few days later another poke came along from the same person so I sent her a
message with the subject of “Hello” and a body of “Hi.”
The next day I got a return message from this mystery girl, in which she stated
who she was, the fact that she had “heard a lot about me from Hope Weaver”,
that she was going to be at the state meet to watch her boyfriend high jump,
and that she wanted to meet me or something. Although my knowledge of Hope
Weaver consists mostly of what she looks like, I said, “Ok then.”
Having already had my picture taken by a mysterious man at the district meet
who seemed to return in the direction of the
Having seen only one picture of this Gwen person, I was unable to recognize her
with any sure-ity in the crowd, so I waited around and watched the high jump a
while.
Some time shortly after her boyfriend went out of the competition, I felt a
hand upon my shoulder. I turned and found in real life Gwendolyn Baugh.
So then we talked for a minute or two about some things, but not other things.
Then she went away.
My dad asked, “Who was that?” and feeling that “a girl I met on the internet”
was somewhat unsatisfactory, I responded, “a member of the fan club.”
My dad asked “What?” and I said “I guess you had to be there.”
Since then I have not heard from her in any way, shape, or form.
Theatrical Release Version:
