Everclear

Everclear was one of the first "alternative" or "grunge" bands I ever got into, primarily because Art Alexakis wrote lyrics that had some substance to them, songs about his own experiences as well as those of people around him, and also because I really had a thing for their technique of making lo-fi indie rock while still managing to pull off some seriously layered guitar tracks. At times, these guys sounded like they had six guitar parts going. Equally impressive was how they managed to make a name for themselves with little to no help from anybody but their own bad selves via constant touring and tireless self-promotion. Yet, as is true with nearly every promising band, there comes a time when the money wins and the art dies, no pun intended (Art Alexakis is still alive at the time of this writing).
