I've got to give Cake some originality/respect points for not giving a shit whether or not anybody thought their mixture of disparate musical styles, Vincent di Fiore's trumpet playing, and John McCrea's social commentary lyrical style was cool enough for the mainstream. I guess they just got lucky in that they did in fact do pretty well commercially, because otherwise, any other equally creative band would be written off by the entertainment media as being "too intellectual." What exactly does "too" intellectual mean? Is that the same thing as being "not stupid enough"? Anyway...
