A Hollow Earth Insider Tidbit 3/13/04
www.thehollowearthinsider.com

From our CURRENT NEWS section and the Roswell (New Mexico) Daily Record News comes the following update:

I am posting the entire article because I feel they would not mind as it's actually helping then to spread the word. I wish them great success.
A Festival like this can only help to bring a of interest in UFOS to people who otherwise would have no interest. Let it be know that The Hollow Earth Insider is behind the people of Roswell, N.M. in this endeavor 100%. I can't make it out there this year but if it becomes annual I'm looking at next year as a place to be.
For now I will be sending my 25 bucks to become a member. (The t-shirt alone will be a must have and worth the membership fee by itself!).
The article:

Independent film fest among additions to Roswell 2004

Record Staff Writer
The festival is going to be big, said David Baumann, President of Roswell 2004 Festival, formerly known as the Roswell UFO Festival, during a press conference Thursday at the International UFO Museum and Research Center.
There will be many firsts for this year's festival, which is July 1-4, with the new association membership program and the first independent film festival in Roswell.
"The association membership is for all of the people out there who would like to be a part of our show to contribute to the Roswell 2004 Festival," Baumann said.
The cost of the membership is $25 per person. The membership includes a T-shirt and a membership card.
"The key thing that it does is it shows that you are participating and helping us make (the festival) a successful show," Baumann said. "We hope to sell thousands and thousands of our memberships. We need your help and support. This is one of the ways we will raise money to put on the show."

With an estimated 47,000 people from all over the world attending this year's festival, organizers feel the membership will give the festival more public support, said Jack Swickard, advertising and marketing director.
"One of the elements that has been missing for so many years with the festival is a wide range of public support," Swickard said. "It is a way to get everybody in Roswell, everybody in New Mexico, involved as a sponsor and a participant yearround in the festival."

To become a member of the association visit www.roswellufo.us or apply in person at the museum.
The organizers also want the festival to become the premier July 4 festival in the state of New Mexico and possibly the southwestern United States, Swickard said.
The festival will be community-wide, with events happening all over the city.
Films from more than 100 independent filmmakers will be seen all over the city during the four-day festival. Baumann hopes the festival will continue throughout the years.
"A lady called us and they were looking for a location," Baumann said. "She has been involved in film festivals ... in Austin, Texas — they brought in over $300 million. If Roswell can show a real excitement and support for these independent films, they may come in and start making their films here ... it could be a giant industry for Roswell."

Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Los Tigres Del Norte, the Platters, the Drifters and the Temptations will all perform at the festival. Comedian Paul Rodriguez will also entertain audiences.
Roswell 2004 has expanded the number and variety of events that were associated with the festival in the past, Baumann said.
For instance, the festival will have aircraft displays at the Roswell International Air Center and will fly more than 100 airplanes at once lighting up the skies over the city.
"We are having an alien air force invasion," Baumann said. "We are going to have 100-150 airplanes in the air at once flying over Roswell on the third night. It is going to be big."

Organizers hope to bring a feel of the 1940s back into the festival, commemorating the era when the Roswell Incident occurred. Music from the era will be heard throughout the city and the Roswell Convention and Civic Center will hold a swing dance.
The civic center will also have lectures by astronaut Edgar Mitchell and famed UFO researcher Stanton Friedman. Many UFO experts and author will also be there.
A raffle will be held during the festival for a life-sized horse statue. The tickets can be purchase for $2. The first $5,000 will go Crime Stoppers part of the Roswell Police Department, the rest of the money will go to support the festival.
Organizers also displayed the official 2004 UFO Festival merchandise that can be purchased at the museum and other vendors in the city.
