The Glaily Gnomes
This story was written at least a year ago and was rescued by my friend in her old E-Mails. Enjoy!Not that you deserve it.
A large old woman tiredly sits on a rocking chair,
children gather around her and sit on the floor.
-Everyone has heavy Irish Accents...
Harriet(The old women):Now, children, settle.
Settle or I'll be given' ya's somethin' to be a
wine'in and a' fussin about. Margaret, Margaret now
dont
be doin that.Thats not lady like, Aye, aye I know
he's
been fuedin all day, just ignore him...
Now for class we'll be learnin of the Glaily's.
SmallChild:Does the gnomes live in the Glaily's?
Harriet: Now Blanch Macob McStrevson, we's been
talkin
about nothin but the gnomes for a good near on two
days.
-The children become vocal in there interest in the
Gnomes.
Harriet: Aye quiet with ya' then.The gnomes. Aye,
they
live in the Glaily's, the ones there have been known
for there shoes.
Child:What if I's come apon a gnome in the Glaily's?
Harriet:Ahh, you best be careful with these
Gnomes.For
they be the most spitefull a crooked of all the wee
people.
SomeBigChild:If'n I came upon a Gnome, I'd stick him
the eye.
Harriet:Now Patrick Magily, you'de be none the wiser
to know the Glaily are particulary wicked to those
that are spitefull and crooked to them.
No, no my children.If'n you come upon one of these
Gnomes you tell them "A lovely day it is".
And Gnomes bein' troublesome creatures will say,
"Ive
seen better".
Now ya' see you look at that gnome with a smile on
your face and say to him"Aye that is true, but Ive
never seen the likes of em' shoes you got there"
Now any Gnome thats taken a livin in the Glaily's
has
a keen sight on wearin only the finest shoes.
Child: Do Glaily Gnomes have fine shoes?
Harriet: The lot of em' think they have the best
Shoes but none of em' have shoes that anyone right
in
their heads could call fine...
AnotherChild:What do ya' do after you tell em' they
got fine shoes?
Harriet: Well Gnomes also are very fickle creatures
and
he'll look down to admire his shoes. As soon as he
does ya' hold your nose and he wont know where ya'
are.
Child:Why not?
Harriet:Because if there anythin' a Glaily Gnome
likes
better then shoes, is noses.If'n he cant see your
nose, he'd rather not be lookin' at ya'...
Now on to the Glaily's....
