The Buffer Zone, 140
kilometres long has been in place since 1974, after the Turkish
invasion of Cyprus. It cuts the island in half and is patrolled by a
UN peacekeeping force known as UNFICYP. The 1230 strong UN force has
154 observations posts in the buffer zone, or Green Line as it's often
called. UNFICYP's main tasks are monitoring the status quo and
reporting violations of the buffer zone. This site is non-political, a
library for pictures and maps from Cyprus' Buffer Zone.
