Mazar-e-Sharif
means " The Noble Grave". Mazar-e-Sharif is one of the most
prestigious and religious cities in Afghanistan in northern part of the country.
Based on the historical facts and local suggestions; the tomb of Hazarat-e
Ali/Prophet Ali, cousin and son -in- law of Prophet Mohammad Mustafa, is located
in this city. Each year thousands of people come to this city to attend the New
Year celebration of Nao Roz and visit the grandiose Mosque of Roza Mobarak (see
the picture below). The town of Balkh which is the same name of the province
known as "Umul Balad" (Cities' Mother) and it was the center of Koshan
civilization and culture in I-V centuries.
The main ethnic group of population of Mazazar-e-Sharif is Uzbeks who form
around 9 % of Afghan Population.
