Dying Like Us

"Dying Like Us is the brainchild of Lisa Menzel and the sonic progeny of Jennifer Jonelis. The project began in December of 2002 after a terrible terminal illness befell the abstract/psych-fiction writer, Menzel. In crude acoustic stylings and fifty-dollar words, her symptoms are related to listeners who share the same disease. However, Menzel has always kept the specifics of her condition a mystery, saying only that "those who have it know when they hear the first few lines. It's like a doctor calling to give you the worst news you could possibly expect after a crucial visit and yet you could have never prepared for...the moment you start thinking long and hard about your life and pray more desperately than you ever have before.Mine is the only disease in existence, but its mutations are countless." Jonelis, the immensely talented lead guitarist,(whom also happens to be a phenomenal bassist and pianist), is quite reclusive and when asked what the metaphors were in reference to, upheld Menzel's statements by saying,"the well have no need for us.We're only here for the sick." Jonelis would only comment on the fact that she, herself, has a questionable amount of time left due to exposure to Menzel by saying that she couldn't wait until it's all over.Something about losing one's life to gain it,( I don't know;she bit the foam off my microphone, spit it back at me, and told me next time she was going to get closer.) Our crew adjourned from the property of her Chicago home at that time. I have never met anyone as miserable as these two, but I know one thing; the planning of their funerals has put my life into perspective. Some of the saddest and loveliest things have come out of this endeavor and we are truly fortunate to have them around for as long as they may be able to physically endure it. Although many accuse the duo of being unappreciative of how fragile and invaluable our human existence is, most do not understand that they are standing at the edge of that crumbling ridge, and have already coped with the falling factor" -Skip Mc Leopold -The Chi-Town Needler
