The Adult

Innocence lost long before,
Yet trust is still in the fore,
Believing that good will always conquer,
On she goes on her adventure.

Places to go people to meet,
When will she learn to retreat,
When will she look through wise eyes knowing,
Instead of blindly trusting not knowing.

Walls were built to hide behind,
But still the trust escapes around,
Feelings stronger than the strength she holds,
Push on the wall until it unfolds.

It crumbles and falls and leaps back up,
Hides all she has to give from that trust,
When will she learn to love with trust
Will it evade her till she turns to dust.

Her heart is hard her soul unyielding,
From all of the former shielding,
She wants so much what others have,
To love with totally open heart.

She tries so hard to free these feelings,
Locked within her guarded being,
She clings to the hope that has hung in her heart,
That someone will come that won't tear it apart.
