Democracy Lives On
Twisted metal, burning heap,
Skyward the towering flames leap,
Shock, fear and disbelief,
all abundant we are plagued with grief.
Pain and agony tug at our heart,
As so many dearly beloved depart,
Anger and rage, questions of why,
Did so many innocent people die.
Revenge is on the tongues of us all,
Find who is responsible and bring them to fall,
Unleash retribution, an eye for an eye,
A tooth for a tooth the enraged masses cry.
We look to each other for answers unknown,
In the arms of our neighbours find we're not alone,
A nation divided comes together in tears,
And stands stronger united against all our fears.
A new unity is forged in America today,
In the face of adversity we have paved a new way,
A brotherhood of caring and kindness is formed,
That like our democracy shall always live on.
