Nineteen students, including the two representatives from Farragut, went to Kanoon Elementary school for two days we explained what racial profiling is as well as, full and partial profiling. We engaged in role-playing and performed skits about these issues. Finally we solicited the children's perspectives concerning these issues. Our class developed and promoted this service project by reading the suggested service projects in the Constitutional Rights resouces guide. We decided to combine the first and the second suggestions. From this project we learned that working with younger children is challenging, but it was a goal that we successfully accomplished. This project looked excellent in theory, but the implementations of it was rather difficult. The children participated in our "post workshop" and they informed us of what they'd learned. We found that this project was well worth the difficult work and research. We, as a class, had the opportunity to share our opinions and ideas. At times we disagreed and debated, but we resolved our differences. Mr. Charles Kuner's class got to know each other a little better and share extraordinary experiences. Going to Kanoon Elementary school and presenting this service project was an incredible experience for everyone, one we will never forget! Farragut Career Academy Mr.Charles Kuner's Students |
