Shapeshifter

Pulling the threads from what I've built
Watching the walls fall apart
I see the reflection of my shadow
As the dust settles in the dark
I've put trust in the words you once spoke
Invoking a new found confidence
Whereas once you were a natural vision
Now it's turned into a lonely dance

For years the imprint has never been seen
My feet sink in their crevices
No change required when you are prepared
But one day I became my own nemesis

When the mirror is stabbing you in the back
Your eyes are too sullen to notice the loss
The skin shows the color of fading time
Maybe it's time to make the cross … across

I'm sorry
For losing
I'm not what I promised to be

So I open myself to accept the future
I open myself to spread my wings and fly
I fix my eyes on what awaits for me
The consequences of living a lie

I'm sorry
For losing
I'm not what I promised to be

One foot over the edge
The other changing shape
The wind carries me over the end

…And away…
…And away…
…And away I go…
