Where is Thailand?
The Kingdom of Thailand, covering an area of 514,000 square kilometres, lies in the heart of Southeast Asia, roughly equidistant between India and China. It shares borders with Myanmar to the west and north, Lao P.D.R. to the north and northeast, Cambodia to the east and Malaysia to the south.

Topography
Thailand is divided into four distinct areas : the mountainous North, the fertile Central Plains, the semi-arid plateau of the Northeast, and the peninsula South, distinguished by its many beautiful tropical beaches and offshore islands.

Climate
Thailand lies within the humid tropics and remains hot throughout the year. Average temperatures are about 29oC, ranging in Bangkok from 35oC in April to 17oC in December. There are three seasons: the cool season (November to February), the hot season (April to May), and the rainy season (June to October), though downpours rarely last more than a couple of hours.

Population

According to the census in 2001, Thailand has a population of about 62.3 million and about 9.5 million people lives in Bangkok, the capital city. Ethnic Thais form the majority, though the area has historically been a migratory crossroads, and thus strains of Mon, Khmer, Burmese, Lao, Malay, Indian and most strongly, Chinese stock produce a degree of ethnic diversity. Integration is such, however, that culturally and socially there is enormous unity.

Religion

The national religion is Buddhism, practiced by more than 90 percent of all Thais. The remainder of the population adheres to Muslim, Christian, Hindu and other faiths, all of which are allowed full freedom of expression. Buddhism continues to cast a strong influences on daily life
National Flag & National Song.
Thai flag has five horizontal stripes.  The red stripes represent the nation, the white ones stand for religion and the wider blue band in the center, symbolizes the monarchy.  In every schools, universities or governmental offices, the national flag is raised and lowered each day at 8.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. respectively, while the national song is played.

Thai King
HIS MAJESTY KING BHUMIBOL ADULYADEJ of Thailand was born in Cambridge Massachusetts, USA. in 1927.  He was given the significant name of Bhumibol Adulyadej, meaning Strength of the Land Incomparable Power which becomes prophetic as his Reign advances through various critical periods and the Thai nation evolves more and more around the Throne as the sole sources of unity and strength

With concern about his people safety and quality of living, His Majesty initiates many Royal Development Projects and new theories regarding agriculture, public health, water resource, public welfare, environment, occupational promotion, communication and others.

His Majesty the King's accomplishments in music are well known, not only to his Thai subject, but also to lovers of music worldwide. He is one of Thailand's best jazz musicians. He has composed 43 musical works which rank among the most well known in the history of Thai contemporary music.  His Majesty also talents in painting, sculpture, photography and sailing.

Thai House
The Thai House is a traditional Thai house built with a golden teakwood structure in an architectural style that was popular  in central Thailand some 150 years ago. The distinctive wing-shaped roof structure is inspired by the temples. It is thought that these wings are a means of the inhabitants to reach heaven. The lay-out consists of many separate houses symmetrically linked together consistent with the traditional practice of keeping extended families living and working together in the same compound to create the sense of belonging to the family.

Thai Food
Thailad is famous for Thai food.  The ideal meal of Thailand is a harmonious blend of the spicy, the subtle, the sweet and sour, and meant to be equally satisfying to eye, nose and palate.  The most two famous dishes are lemon grass shrimp soup called "Tom Yum Khung" and fried noodle with tamarin sauce called "Phadthai"

The economic crisis emerged in Thailand in 1977 and spreaded through out Asia was called world wide as "Tom Yom Khung" Crisis!!

Thai Boxing
Despite of the sport originating from a lethal self-defense, bouts of Thai boxing, also known as kick boxing, are characterized by an extensive ceremonial set-up and a show of graceful swaying and weaving of the arms at the beginning of the fight.  Except for the head, all parts of the body are offensive weapons, and all parts including the head are fair targets. The most effective weapons are the knees and the feet. Knock out is the common fate of the looser in Thai boxing, normally resulting from well aimed kicks on the head.
