Marquette University Pep Band
Music with Attitude. What better way to describe the Pep Band?
You know who they are. You can't miss the band if you are at a Men's or Women's Basketball Game at the Bradley Center or Wisconsin Center Arena. You see them there -- the yellow and blue striped rugby shirts, aka, the "Bumblebees." You hear them there -- they're rocking the arena before, during, and after the game, with songs like "Johnny B. Goode", "The Final Countdown", "Boogie Down", "Opus One", "Louie, Louie", "Championship", and, of course, the Marquette Fight Song, " Ringout Ahoya".
In fact, you probably hear that last one so often, you chant along with the band and the rest of the crowd.
Comprised of members from the Symphonic Band and Orchestra, the Pep Band plays at all home Men's and Women's Basketball games, as well as post-season tournaments. The Pep Band also performs several other times during the year for other Marquette University functions.
Although basketball games are exciting, things really heat up during the post-season. Tournament trips are the highlight of the entire Pep Band year. Some band members have been to North Carolina, Cincinnati, Louisville, New Orleans, St. Louis, Baton Rouge, and Colorado. Who knows where the band will end up this year?
Pep Band is the way for the band members to really show their attitude. For some, it's a way to express their team spirit. For others, it's a chance to show you what they really can do on their instrument. For all, it's one of the best parts of being in band.
So don't head for the concession stand during every time out or halftime; listen to the Pep Band. And come early and stay late and hear some more. You'll be glad you did.
