These are pictures from the Chicago Emergency Disaster Team which was sent to New York to serve at a Canteen/Meal site at Ground Zero.

We begin our two week tour of duty with an orientation and tour of the WTC by Tom Sherry the Commander for the Salvation Army response.

This is part of the temporary Police and Fire Fighter memorial established to honor those that fell in the line of duty on September 11, 2001.

Family members come by each day and leave their memorials to thoses that died on Sept 11th.

This Salvation Army site provides needed supplies and a counseling center for those needing assistance. We have many counselors that patrol the whole site and offer words of comfort to family members and rescue workers. We also act as chaplains and pray over recovered bodies that are draped with an American flag and brought to the temporary morgue.

Children and adults from across the US and the world send notes of encouragement and condolences to the victims and the rescue workers. Many of these are posted at Salvation Army canteens and meal stations.
