EVFD MEMBERS WHO FOUGHT COURTHOUSE FIRE SIGN BEAMS
Elgin Volunteer Fire Department:
Elgin Fire Department was first started in 1953 by a group of caring citizens of the Elgin Community. With it's inception Mr. W.F. “Bill” Monts was selected as the first chief at the department. The first fire station was a two bay garage on Highway 521South about one-half mile south of it's current location. It was located there from 1956 until 1981. The current Fire Station located at 114 Tram Road, was dedicated and ready for use on March 15, 1981. The current facility has an office area, showers, bunk room, kitchen, restrooms, and classroom.
The current bay area of the Fire Station houses a 2008 Pierce first out engine with CAFS system, FES 3000 gallon tanker on a 2006 Ken Worth chassis, 1988 Mack Emergency Response Service vehicle equipped with an SCBA refill system, 2002 Ford 2500 Service Pick-up, a 2002 E-One 75’ Ladder Truck with a 2000 GPM pump.
We currently have 17 members. Dennis Cauthen is the chief along with Randy White as assistant chief, Bobby Hudson as Captain, Richard Hudson Lieutenant. Nine of our members are currently First Responders which assist EMS on medical calls. Our population served is apprond aximately 5,800. Our frequency is 154.9875. We are one of nineteen county fire stations located in Lancaster County, South Carolina.
Station 6 members who fought the courthouse fire on 8-4-08 signed beams being used to replace courthouse roof beams that were burned..The beam signed will be placed on the south wall side where Station 6 fought the fire.
