This 4-channel is far more than the world's most versatile
quadraphonic tape deck.
Conventional 4-track recorders do not permit overdubbing in sync.
The record and playback head are physically separated,
which results in a time lag between the signal
being recorded and the previously recorded signal being monitored.
Consequently, synchronization is impossible.
Each track of the Simul-Sync record head
can be electronically switched to permit monitoring of the
previous tracks of material as new
tracks is being recorded.
All tracks will be in perfect sync.
Up to ten individual instruments and voice
tracks can be recorded at different times,
with no track going beyond second generation.
You can move from the directional functions
(play,rewind,fast forward,stop,pause and record)
with a mere touch of a finger.
All transport controls are positioned for right hand operation.
There is also a unique paus control
with indicator light which allows
you to keep the deck in the record mode while
pausing momentarily - you can then continue
recording at any given instant without
those annoying "start-pops" you
used to hear in other decks.
Separate bias and Eq switches maintain a
compatible adjustments between the tape decks
electronics and the different types of tape.
Being able to select the proper bias for
either high frequency/low distortion or standard tape results in
four major benefits:
(1) Reduction of background noise
(2)Reduction of tape hiss.
(3)A much improved signal to noise ratio.
(4)Greater clarity and frequency response.
Signals from 8 sourches (4line+4 mic)
may be recorded simultaneously.
Independent mic and line pre-amps,
each with it's own level control,
provide maximum flexibility for creative
recording and permits input from a combination
of line/source and mic signals.
Naturally, the 3340S has 7-1/2 speed and 15.
A reel-size selector button automatically
adjusts the motor torque and holdback tension for the reel used.
An important feature to avoid tape stretch.
Quik-lock reel-holders secure reels
to the turntable with a twist of the wrist.
The four professional VU-meters is large and easy to read.
A two-channel, four-channel play switch
lets you enjoy old stereo tapes as well as your new quad tapes.
This model will playback almost
any kind of recorded 1/4 inch tapes:
2-track mono and fulltrack.
It can also be used as a
regular 4-track/2channel tape deck.
For that purpose set the Play switch to:
1+3 Front channels.

note: TZ-612 adaptors.

(2) Eddy current induction reel-motors.

A few accessories for this model:

Note: This model in the pictures
is the second generation of 3340-S (1973).
First model has different transport-control section
with a slide-lever for changing between Play and Fforward/Rewind.
I have following for both models:
