How to play mp3 CD's from the SunOS machines in EE/Csci 4-204

Updated 2/04/02: works perfectly with a fully-featured Winamp clone

1. Burn a standard CDR with .mp3 files.
Yes you can do this on a Windows machine and it'll work.

2. Plug headphones in.
You can't use the front headphone jack. Instead you have to use one of the four on the back of the machine:

(viewed from the back of the machine)

3. Insert CDR into CD-ROM.

4. Load the CD-ROM.
console> volcheck
This makes the CD-ROM contents available at /cdrom/cdrom0/

5. Disable speaker output.
console> audiocontrol &
Deselect "Speaker".

6. Load XMMS player.
console> xmms &

6. Load MP3 files.
Click on "Load."
To find the CD-ROM contents, first open /, then cdrom, then cdrom0.

7. Eject CD.
console> eject
