MY SECOND Z MATCH - COVERS 10 THRU 80 METERS

SMALL ENOUGH FOR PORTABLE USE !

After building my first Zmatch tuner that was much bigger and seeing how well it performed, I decided I wanted a Zmatch that was small enough for portable use also. This project was the result. I ordered the variable capacitors from Emtech, they are the type used in the Emtech ZM-2 tuner. They are dual gang polyvaricons that are 266 pf per section. This portable Zmatch is from the design of Charlie Logfren, W6JJZ. Complete notes on this type of Zmatch can be found at: This site

Charlie recommends using a T130-6 toroid for the inductor, but since I only had a T106-2 core I recalculated the the windings needed and used that instead. So far, it has worked out well with the T106 core so I plan on leaving it as is. This Zmatch will tune my big 40 meter extended double zepp on 30 meters just fine, which is something my little Norcal BLT wouldn't do ! As a side note, the BLT will tune a 44' doublet on 30 meters just fine. I won't eloborate much on this project since there is already a lot of info about it on the site listed above. The schematic I've included should help guide you though incase you decide to build one.
