Morristown Golf and Country Club

Morristown's oldest course, designed and built in 1927 by golf architect George Thompson. The simple layout and lack of traditional sand bunkers and water hazards make it a fair test to players of all ability but mask the fact that even without the usual hazards, this course can play tough, even for the most accomplished player. The prevailing west wind seems to blow a little harder here, making approach shots a test of nerves for any golfer and makes it difficult for better golfers to "knock it stiff." And when the wind shifts direction, all bets are off.

But the real strength of MGCC lies in the sloping, "postage stamp" sized bent grass greens. Often called "the best greens in East Tennessee," the lightning fast greens terrify beginners and provide a real challenge for more accomplished players. Combined with some serious terrain on several holes, these greens provide a putting experience that is as unique as the players that come here. And due to a superior drainage system, the course is playable soon after even the heaviest rains.

Located just minutes from downtown Morristown, the course's convenient location and informal setting make it an ideal place to "get in a quick nine" or participate in one of the many tournaments held here. The semi-private club is locally known as a course where you can always get a game with club sponsored matches played seven days a week. Owned and operated by partial owner Buddie Mcmahan the course is open from dawn until dusk weather permitting every day except Christmas Day.
