Procedure—have child use finger paints and ask child what the images
represent.

Guidance suggestions—analysis with the child will help the child develop own
classification system.

Evaluation— compare pictures in a series to see how meanings evolve.

2.
Name of Activity: Puzzles

Goal—improve cognitive development through ordering objects

Objectives – improve logical thinking

Materials— sets of jig saw puzzles of various complexities.

Procedure— assemble the puzzles. Give some clues by identifying edge pieces
and corner pieces.

Guidance suggestions— move up in complexity.

Special objectives—none

Evaluation— after mastering the simple puzzles the child will become more
confident with the more difficult puzzles.

Name of Activity: Counting

Goal—– improve logical k / mathematical skills
Objectives – learn to count

Materials— toy with beads that can be moved from one side to the other on
wires. There are ten wires with from 1 to 10 beads. .

Procedure— count the beads one at a time.

Guidance suggestions—results will not be immediate but after a while child
will be able to count

Special objectives—none

Evaluation— ask child to count different things.

Goal—improve cognitive development through sense spatial relationships

Objectives – improve language and logical / mathematical skill.

Materials— use dollies in a doll house.

Procedure— while playing with dollies use phrases like “Jasmine is going up
the stairs. Jasmine is up. Alladin is down in the living room, etc..

Has a journal and a bookstore. The page is under development. Their main focus appears to be children with special needs.

A web site that has a tutorial on the classic theories of child development  developed by Margaret Mahler, Sigmund Freud & Erik Erikson.  There is a month-by-month look at development for ages 1-36 Months

2. http://www.indianchild.com/

A website oriented towards Indian (subcontinent) children with a large variety of cultural specific information.  Has pages on developmental expectations,.

3. http://www.nbcdi.org/

This is a site directed towards issues related to black children.   The National Black Child Development institute works to improve child care across the country and has network of volunteers.  There is not much directly related to children on the site.

4. http://www.cdipage.com/

A very large and extensive web site with information on child development, psychology, parenting, learning, and health and safety.  There is a lot of info on childhood disorders such as attention deficit disorder, dyslexia and autism.   The site has is oriented towards children of all ages.

5. http://www.ffcd.org/

Foundation for Child Development.  The organization has a grant program to study issues related mostly to pre- education, apparently.  There is an article that compares 7 pre-k programs.

The child Development Institute has pages on every facet of child development and recourse directory.  They also have parenting information.

A website with information on videos and tapes for training child care workers.

Georgetown University’s site for child development.  Has a lot resources for child development professionals and training information.

Website of the Council for Professional Recognition.  This organization sets standards and provide credentials for child care professionals.

 

10. http://www.iamyourchild.org/

Parents Action for Children. Has discussion boards for parents and videos for parents and caregivers. There are articles on child care issues.

Website of a popular press magazine for parents.   There are on-line articles for parents.

12. http://www.parenting-child-development.com/

A web site related to Family Matters!  magazine that is also promoting a book.  The site has a lot of resources related to child development and parenting, including a poetry section.

University of Binghamton website with information on the program there and information resources related especially to autism.

14. http://www.pbs.org/wholechild/abc

This is a well designed  PBS website that maps child development in 4 areas: physical development, social and emotional development, thinking skills, communication skills and gives parents links to each of these areas for basic information on child development.

 

15. http://faculty.washington.edu/pbell/kidtech/

This is a University of Washington sponsored blog site.  It is oriented towards how technology affect child development. The focus seems to be on video games for older children.

16. http://www.cdp.auburn.edu/

This is a site for the Child Development/Adolescent Development Project. This is a longitudinal research program that has been going on for years.  It followed children from kindergarten through high school. This site has links to the work that has been published as a result of this study.

This is a website specializing in vision care for children with articles about various vision problems and links to doctors.

This is a website for home schooling that has information on child development and educational issues.

19. http://www.cdrchildsurvivor.org/

This site has information on research done relating the child victims of the holocaust and also information on non-verbal communication using the Kestenberg Movement Profile.

20. http://www.cls.ioe.ac.uk/Cohort/Ncds/mainncds.htm

This site is related to a longitudinal study done in England about a group of children born in a particular week in March, 1958.  The study is called the National Child Development Study.  Six sweeps to gather data have been conducted since the study began.
