Happy Anniversary

The day had finally come when my parents were to go out and leave my sister and me alone at home. It was their anniversary, and they were going to an all – night party at their friend’s house. We really didn’t mind staying home because we had done it before many times. Our house was two story, three bedroom, two bathrooms, with a swimming pool in the back yard. All the bedrooms were upstairs, and the den, living room, and kitchen and dining room were on the first floor. The living room was very large containing a sofa, four chairs, a huge color television, a stereo and a fireplace. Our fireplace was never used because of the central air and the heat system. It was nearing six o’clock and our parents were leaving. They told us to be sure to lock up the house real tight and don’t let anyone inside unless we were absolutely sure who the person was. We were really well protected though because of our big German Shepard we had in the back yard. Our parents said good-bye and then left. They left us the number to call them in case of an emergency. As the car pulled out of the driveway, I noticed someone across the street watching our house. It was a man in a black coat with a gray hat on. Before I could get a real good look, he was gone. I decided not to worry about him anymore because our house was for sale, and he was probably just looking it over. My sister and I settled down and watched television in the living room. It was only six-thirty and the news was still on, so we decided to listen to records until the news was over. We played a couple of albums and turned the stereo off to watch television again. We sat there till about eight o’clock, when I heard a door upstairs slam shut and the electricity went off. My sister and I sat frozen we were so scared. Not one of us dared to move, for fear if being discovered if someone was in the house. Finally I walked to the coffee table and picked up the small flashlight from the drawer in it. Unfortunately, the flashlight wouldn’t work. Evidently the batteries had gone dead. As I was putting it down, we heard a moaning sound from the air conditioning vent over our heads. My sister began crying and ran over to me. Happy Anniversary The day had finally come when my parents were to go out and leave my sister and me alone at home.
