Bryan W. Cantrell
The Real Merced College Student Body President
I
just wanted to say thank you to all who voted for me.
We gave that lady a run
for her money.
I
would like to take a few moments to express my concern about how poorly this election
was run. I know you as a student body have had many concerns about what possibly
could have happened. I have spoken to several people that wish to impose a recount
of the votes; I do not think that would change things at this school.
I'm going to break down a couple of subjects related to the outcome of the election.
1.
Two weeks before the election I went into student activities to have my flyers
stamped, to be legal of course. While I was in the office I was cornered by the
President, Vice President, Treasurer, and some senators. They proceeded to tell
me that I should not run for President, due to the fact I would not have enough
time. They tried to tell me how hard it was, how much time it took, basically
they told me they had a happy family that I should not be a part of.
2.
After posting my flyers up around campus, I was called into the student activities
office. I was told by the advisor to ASMC and a campaign person, that I could
not put any flyers on glass doors or painted surfaces. I complied
with the lecture and removed all posters from glass that I had put up. A week
later one President had posters duct taped to the side of a building and the other
had her posters stuck to soda machines and lamp posts. Makes no since to me, I
wonder if they got the same lecture as I. Matter of fact one President still has
her flyer on the lamp post at the vocational building.
3. On Thursday,
a couple of friends and I went to check out the voting table and to shake hands,
you know mingle with people. You will never guess who was sitting on the ballet
box, that's right the student body president Marry. She was actually sitting there,
what was she doing there? We will never know.
3. The
election started on Tuesday and all looked good. On Thursday a couple of friends
wanted to go vote so we walked over the voting table. To our surprise it was closed,
and do you think there was a note stating if and when it would be open again?
Of course not that would be too easy too smart. We went into the hall to ask the
student activities secretary when it would be open again. Do you think student
activities was open at 4:00 in the afternoon? Of course not, it was closed.
4.
Senators were running the voting table, and people were voting in pencil, come
on that's stupid. What can you do with a pencil? That's right you can erase it.
5.
I have class in Atwater at Castle; there are students that only take night classes
at Castle about twenty votes. Do you think we could drive five miles to get those
votes? Of course no that would cost fifty cent in gas. So you see as I see this
election was not meant to be won by anyone but Marry.
6. Was there an
election booth in Los Banos?
I
want to tell the student body I am sorry about how this election went. To anyone
who plans to run in the future I hope the committee gets there you know what together.
I could swear we live in California but to watch this election you would think we lived in Florida!
