Wishful Thinking

I’ll dream a little dream tonight
Of all the things that make me happy,
Of home and friends,
And ,of lost childhood memories.

Of the little garden with red hibiscus,
And the jasmine vines,
Of Rows of periwinkle ,
Dancing in the sunshine.

Of heady smells of fried onions,
And curry leaves,
Of hot food, and laughter,
And dining with family.

Of my father bent over the morning newspaper,
And my mother sipping her coffee,
My father’s version of the days crime,
And my mother’s mock disbelief.

Of the little things that made me laugh,
And friends with whom I spent most of my time,
Doing nothing of any significance,
And yet having a great time.

Small things, and of not much consequence,
How I have taken them for granted,
So near , and yet so far these seem,
Now that away, I have wandered.

I will dream a little dream tonight,
A dream that will make me happy,
Bring a smile to these lips of mine,
While the tears flow freely.
