To Reconfigure God

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
You were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within you.
It's not just in some of us;
it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence
automatically liberates others.

-Nelson Mandela
Inaugural Speech

I'm an atheist. But I dig the sentiments. To reconfigure God. What do I mean by that?
Well, the principle is, as above, so below.
We create God in our own image, notice that just about every religion you can find portrays the universe as the creation and property of a single individual or small group of individuals, who rule it in a brutal and often contradictory fashion, but since they're the rulers we shouldn't question their/his wisdom, because we will rewarded or punished for our obedience or disobedience.
Notice that just about every society on earth is run politically on the same principle.
For a truly free and democratic governmnet to develop, a religious basis must be found for freedom and democracy, and this religious basis accepted by the majority of our planet's citizens.
Humanism is that religion.
We must invent a new God, the gods of technocracy, capitalism, pleasure and gain for it's own sake, so called progress...not good enough. They all turn out to be denominations of consumerism. Consumerism does the job of traditional religion, that is, creating Hell on earth in the name of heaven, better than the traditional religions could hope to.
