Smartlight Stair Gate - Eye bolt Problem
I could not believe that this part would break.
Actually, anything can break; I just did not think
that this would break as easy. I had read the review
that this had happened but thought it would be a one
time deal. I was walking by holding my son in my arms
and happened to bump into the gate when the gate was
open. I barely touched the gate and from the slight
force that was put on the gate, the eyes separated
from the bolts. After further examination and calming
my son down (the gate ended up falling down the hard
wood stairs scaring him) there is no doubt that there
is a manufacturing defect with these bolts. The bolts
were rusted in between the bolt and the eye. Even
though the bolt had a beautiful finish to it and did
not appear to be rusting, it was. I am an M.E. and
this is free advice for the company. Just fix it and
the gate is perfect. The bolts are made of two parts:
one thick washer (the eye part) and the bolt (the
threaded part). These parts are welded together to
create an eye bolt. Safety1st needs to address one
thing to make sure that this does not happen. Make
sure that there is a good weld. If there is a good
weld then rust would not be able to form. If you look
at the photos that I have of the bolts you can see
that the weld is not solid allowing rust to form.

other ways that could be effective in solving this
issue. But Safety1st can figure it out if they want to.
