"Eighty today, dear lord I am 80. and, there's much I haven't done. I hope, dear lord, you'll let me live until I'm 81. But, if I haven't finished all I want to do. Would you please let me stay a while, until I'm 82? So many places I want to go, so much I want to see--- Do you think you could manage to make it 83? Many things I may have done, but there's so much left in store, I'd like it very much to live to 84. And, if by then, I'm still alive, then I'd like to stay to 85. The world is changing very fast, so I'd really like to stick around and see what happens to the world when I am 86. I know, dear lord, it's a lot to ask, and it will be nice in heaven, but I'd really like to stay around until I'm 87. I know by then I won't be fast, and sometimes, I'll be late. But it would be oh so pleasant to be around at 88. I will have seen so many things and had a wonderful time. So I'm sure that I'll be willing to leave at 89."

-a poem my Grandmother sent my sister and I... (By the way... I'm not in my 80s...)

"The greatest pain in life/ is not to die/ but to be ignored/ To lose the person you love so much/ to another who doesn't care at all./ To have someone you care about so much/ throw a party.../ and not tell you about it./ When your favorite person on earth/ neglects to invite you to his graduation./ To have people think you don't care.

The greatest pain in life,/ is not to die,/ but to be forgotten./ To be left in the dust after another's great achievement./ To never get a call from a friend,/ just saying "hi"./ When you show someone your innermost thoughts/ and they laugh in your face./ For friends to always be/ too busy to console you/ when you need someone to lift your spirits./ When it seems like the only person who cares about you,/ is you.

Life is full of pain,/ but does it ever get better?/ Will people ever care about each other,/ and make time for those who are in need?/ Each of us has a part to play/ in this great show we call life./ Each if us has a duty to mankind/ to tell our friends we love them./ If you do not care about your friends/ you will not be punished./ You will simply be ignored.../ forgotten.../ as you have done to others."
