My Favorite Wilson Phillips Trio Band
| WILSON PHILLIPS BAND
|
A female vocal trio consisting of Carnie and Wendy Wilson (daughters of Beach Boy Brian Wilson) and Chynna Phillips (daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas). They broke through to enormous pop success with their debut album, which sold four million copies. The follow-up, Shadows and Light, got off to a fast start in the spring of 1992. Although the album was successful, selling over a million copies, it didn't have the staying power of their debut. Wilson Phillips broke up the following year. ¡ª William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide

The vocal pop group Wilson Phillips was formed in 1986 by sisters Carnie and Wendy Wilson (daughters of Beach Boy Brian Wilson) and long-time friend Chynna Phillips (daughter of John Phillips from the Mamas and the Papas), who were all in their late teens at the time. The trio recorded several demos which eventually caught the attention of songwriter
Glen Ballard, who became their collaborator. Wilson Phillips' 1990 self-titled debut album went on to sell over 10 million copies worldwide and was supported by a world tour. The trio returned less than a year later with Shadows and Light, which went platinum. Following the release of Shadows and Light Chynna Phillips left Wilson Phillips to begin a solo career,
releasing her debut Naked And Sacred in 1995; that same year she married actor William Baldwin and went on to appear in a Broadway musical. The Wilson sisters went on to record a 1993 Christmas album; Carnie Wilson later had her own talk show, created a workout video, and designed a line of clothing. In 1997 Carnie and Wendy Wilson, along with their father,
Brian Wilson, released a new album as the Wilsons, titled Monday Without You.

The follow-up, Shadows And Light, shot into the US bestsellers list in the first week of release. Featuring a tougher sounding production, the album addressed the problems suffered by the girls as children,
citing the stress caused by their respective fathers' over-indulgences. Both Brian Wilson and John Phillips could benefit from listening to the lyrics 'Flesh And Blood' and 'Would You Fly All The Way From New York'. The unit broke up towards the end of 1992. As Carnie And Wendy Wilson,
the sisters released the dreadful Hey Santa! late in 1993 while Phillips started a solo career. The Wilson sisters successfully patched up their relationship with their estranged father, and he participated in the recording of a 1997 album released as the Wilsons. In 2000 they were performing regularly
with Al Jardine and his two sons as Beach Boys, Family And Freinds.
