Epilogue

Los Angeles, California

“What do you mean, I’m being let go?”

The editors across the table winced at the strident tones of the woman’s voice. “Just what we said, Ms. Thomas,” a man said. “We at J-14 believe that the “Bobbee’s Buzz” column has run it’s course, and we’re looking for something different.”

“Do you know who I am?” Bobbie sputtered. “Who I DATED?”

“We are aware of your past association with *Nsync, yes,” the man agreed. “But since you and Mr. Chasez have discontinued your relationship, there’s not much more you can do for us now, is there?”

Bobbie’s eyes narrowed. “I have information on them…”

One editor held up a hand. “Ms. Thomas, we were warned that you’d try and slander their reputation if we let you go. We will not deal in gossip or innuendo or the ravings of a woman scorned.” He raised a brow. “And I can guarantee that if you do try and sell any such stories to any publication, you will be met with the same answer. No.”

“But…but…” Bobbie sputtered. “What am I supposed to do now?”

One editor at the table slip a newspaper over to Bobbie. “I’d suggest you look for a job.”

Orlando, Florida

“Mr. Perlman?”

Lou looked up at his secretary’s voice in the doorway. “What is it, Darlene?”

“There are some men here to see you.”

Lou sighed. “I told you I didn’t want to be interrupted,” he scolded.

“Mr. Perlman…”

Two men stood in the door. “Lou Perlman?” one asked.

Lou nodded.

A badge flashed. “We’re from the Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Perlman,” the other one said. “We have a warrant to search your office, home, and everywhere else you might have done business in the past 10 years, as well as perform an audit of your finances.”

Lou’s pudgy face paled.

**************

Water flew high as Joey did a massive cannonball on JC and Justin as they played in Chris’ pool. But everyone laughed as JC caused Joey to fly back out of the pool, landing the man softly in the grass.

Chris flipped the phone closed, smiling slyly; he was incredibly happy with the news he’d just received. Things usually work out in their own time, he thought. But sometimes situations needed a little Chris-nudge. He tossed the phone down and jumped into the pool.
