The anniversary

JC smiled as Justin’s arms came round his neck. He reached up and slipped the earphones off, leaning back into his lover’s embrace. “You made it,” JC said, bending his head to allow Justin’s lips more access to his neck.

“Of course,” Justin murmured, teeth filled with earlobe. “I’d never miss this day.”

JC chuckled. “I’m still lost, Justin,” he admitted. “You said it was an anniversary, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out which one.”

“Really?” Justin’s hands were sliding down JC’s chest, slipping open the buttons of his shirt. “What anniversaries have you discounted?”

“Hmm,” JC purred at Justin’s touch. It was getting hard to concentrate. “First time we had sex was your 18th birthday, so it’s not that.”

“That’s right, it’s not.”

“And, uh.” JC’s breath caught as Justin’s fingers teased under the waistband of JC’s pants. “And I, well, I told you I loved you in Nashville, during the summer, so that’s not it, either.”

“Right again.”

“So…what is it?”

Justin sat on the bench next to JC and pulled the older man close. “Maybe this will jog your memory,” he said before closing his mouth over JC’s. The kiss was gentle and sweet, their lips opened slightly, no hint of tongue. Just a slight pressure and a soft moan from Justin. He lifted his head, looking JC in the eyes as the memory flooded back…

One last look around. That’s all he asked for, and that’s what he was going to get. Yes, Justin told his mom he’d said good-bye to everyone already, but he really wanted one last look at the sets, the stage, the whole place. The Mouse club was over, and everyone was going their separate ways. Justin was incredibly sad about it. He’d been brave when he’d seen Britney and Christina crying, turning away as his own eyes burned. He’d been brave when Ryan and TJ and Tate said their farewells, hugging and exchanging addresses. He’d hugged all the girls and shook hand with the boys and told Matt and Robin how much he’d leaned from them and how much he appreciated the opportunities they’d given him.

But now, he wanted one last look. He wanted…

A door slammed open, and Justin turned toward the sound. He made out a tall skinny shape silhouetted against the light streaming in from the hall. “Justin?” a voice called.

It was JC. “Yeah, I’m here,” he said.

JC walked into the sound stage toward Justin. “I saw your mom outside, and she said you were in here.” He reached Justin, coming under the dim light that shone on both boys. “I thought you’d already gone,” JC said.

Justin shook his head. “We’re headed out now, but…”

“You wanted one last look, huh?” JC said. Justin nodded. “Me, too.”

“When do you leave for LA?” Justin asked.

“Tomorrow,” JC said, smiling down at Justin. “It’ll be okay, Justin.”

Justin shook his head. “No, it won’t. It’s all over.”

JC laughed. “You’re way to talented for that, you’ll be back in the spotlight.”

“From Millington?” Justin scoffed. “No, you’ll be the famous one, out in LA. I just hope…” Justin stopped, looking down at his shoes.

“You hope what?” Justin shook his head. “Justin,” JC demanded, placing his hand on Justin’s shoulder. “You hope what?”

“That you don’t forget about me,” Justin whispered. He looked up at JC, eyes full of hope and love. “You won’t, will you?”

JC blinked a bit, his hand on Justin’s shoulder moving down Justin’s arm, unconsciously pulling the boy nearer. “I could never forget you,” JC said. “You’re pretty unforgettable.”

Justin licked his lips, seeing JC’s eyes follow the movement. “I am?” he whispered, moving even closer to JC’s tall body.

“Yes,” JC said softly, his hand now locked in Justin’s, his other one lifting to Justin’s face. JC’s fingers traced Justin’s lips before his head lowered toward Justin’s waiting mouth.

The kiss was gentle and sweet; their lips opened slightly, no hint of tongue. Just a slight pressure and a soft moan from Justin. JC lifted his head, searching Justin’s face. He saw Justin’s eyes closed, his mouth wet and open, his breathing fast and lowered his head again…

“JUSTIN!”

Lynn’s voice startled both boys, making them jump away from each other. Their eyes locked, the enormity of what happened passing silently between them.

“JUSTIN!”

Justin swallowed. “I’m here, Mom,” he finally said.

Lynn’s heels clicked on the silent stage floor as she moved toward the boys. “Oh, JC!” Lynn smiled at the sight of JC. “I’m glad Justin got to say goodbye to you again,” she said.

“Me, too, Mrs. Harless,” JC said. He turned to Justin. “I’ll write, I promise.” He pulled Justin close for a hug, then ran from the sound stage.

Lynn watched JC leave, then turned to Justin. “You okay, baby?” she asked.

Justin nodded. “I’m great, Mom,” he said, touching his mouth for a moment. “I think things are going to work out just fine.” Justin gave her a huge smile as they left the building.

“Remember now?” Justin said, a mischievous look on his face.

JC blushed. “Do I ever!” He laughed, shaking his head. “You have no idea what you did to me that day.”

Justin lifted a hand and threaded it through JC’s curls. “Me? You’re the one who kissed me, remember?”

“Yes, I remember, but Justin! I felt…”

“Hot?”

JC blushed even more. “I shouldn’t have, but yes. And I knew, too.”

“Knew what?”

“That you’d be trouble. That I’d never get you out of my system. That as much as I fought it, we were fated to be together.”

Justin cocked his head, his face quizzical. “And that was bad?”

JC sighed. “No, not bad. But you were just a baby, Justin. I didn’t want you to do anything so serious, so soon.” He smiled. “But then again, you’ve always been older than your years. I should have known once you made up your mind, nothing would steer you from your path.”

“That right,” Justin agreed. “And from that day on, I knew you’d be mine.”

JC kissed Justin softly. “Happy Anniversary, lover.”

Justin returned the kiss, feeling again the thrill of loving JC.
