Say goodbye to Hollywood

Authors note: It's kind of a sequel to “Nashville Song”

***

Bobby's driving through the city tonight-
Through the lights-
In a hot new rent-a-car.
He joins the lover in his heavy machine-
It's a scene down on Sunset Boulevard.

He slept for three days.

Justin kept looking into the room, hoping that this time JC would be awake. But he wasn’t. He never moved…just slept. Justin’s mom said to leave JC alone, to let him sleep. She seemed to know something that Justin didn’t, that somehow, sleep was what JC needed more than food, more than company, more than Justin.

So Justin let him sleep, wondering what happened that made JC need to sleep for three whole days.

Say goodbye to Hollywood
Say goodbye my baby.
Say goodbye to Hollywood,
Say goodbye my baby.

Six months later, the two boys were back in Tennessee, but this time in Nashville. Justin was visiting JC, who was working at a café but singing demos any chance he could get. Justin and JC spent a week together and at the end, had discovered they had more than music in common.

“A whole nother week,” Justin said, scooting nearer to JC on the bed.

JC smiled. “What do you want to do today?” he asked, hands unconsciously petting the fair head lying on his chest. Somehow they’d convinced Lynn to let Justin stay for another week. A twinge of guilt crossed JC’s mind. Would she still have allowed it if she could see them now? he wondered. Probably not, JC answered himself. But if he was already dammed, what’s the point in stopping now?

“Can’t we stay here?” Justin asked, propping his chin on JC’s chest.

“Here? In the apartment?” JC looked around. “I don’t even have cable!”

“No, but.” Justin lifted a hand, stroking JC’s skin gently. “But we can find, uh, other things to do…right?”

JC’s eyes closed against the sensation. “Justin…” he groaned as Justin’s lips replaced his hand, warm softness tracing patterns of heat and wet across JC’s chest.

“Shhh…” Justin scooted higher against JC. “I know you won’t do anything to me,” he whispered, lips skimming JC’s mouth. “But you never said I couldn’t do anything to you…”

The kiss was soft and sweet and oh so good. Justin’s youthful approach and tentative touches were driving JC crazy, but yes, he’d vowed not to touch Justin. So he’d let Justin do the touching…

And touch he did.

Johnny's taking care of things for awhile-
And his style is so right for troubadours.
They got him sitting with his back to the door
Now he won't be my fast gun anymore.

Their stolen week flew by. The tension of the previous week was gone, the glory of new-found love ahead of them, and nothing but fun and friendship and just a little sex in between. They worked Nashville during the days, singing on demos and talking for hours. By night, the talked more, about each other, what they wanted, what they needed. And they slept wrapped in each others arms.

Say goodbye to Hollywood
Say goodbye my baby.
Say goodbye to Hollywood,
Say goodbye my baby.

“I don’t want to leave,” Justin said, pouting.

JC sighed as Justin’s flight was called for the first time. They had maybe ten minutes left together, and he’d be dammed if Justin ruined it by whining. He looked around and spied a far bathroom. “Come here,” he said, dragging the boy across the airport into the room. JC made sure it was empty before bolting the door to the outside.

JC pulled Justin close. “I’ll be in Orlando before you know it,” he told him.

Justin avoided JC’s eyes. “I guess.”

“You don’t believe me?” JC asked. Justin shrugged. “Justin?”

“You’ll forget about me,” came the whispered reply. “I’m just a kid, and you’ll forget about me and go on with your life.”

JC lifted Justin’s face to his. Forget Justin? He’d just as easily forget breathing. “Justin, do you know why I came to your house after leaving LA?”

“No.”

“Because of all the people in the world, including my own family, you’re the only one I missed so much I couldn’t do without for another month, another week, another hour. I drove straight from LA to your house, Justin. I called my parents and told them I was I’d left LA from your house.” He smiled at Justin’s confused expression. “Do you know what that means?”

“I think so,” Justin said. “It means…you love me?”

“Got it in one,” JC said, kissing the boy softly. “Now, let’s get you back to Orlando so I can start missing you again.”

“You’ll be down soon?”

“Try and keep me away.” He kissed Justin again. “You’re stuck with me, no matter what.”

Moving on is a chance that you take every time you try to stay together.
Say a word out of line and you find that the friends you had are gone-
Forever...forever.
So many faces in and out of my life,
Some will last, some will just be now and then.
Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes-
I'm afraid it's time for goodbye again.

“JC, get your ass down to Orlando, now!”

“Nice to hear from you, too, baby,” JC scolded. “What’s up?”

“I’ve got a gig lined up for us, Jayce. A real group, with real money, and everything!”

JC smiled at the excitement he could hear in Justin’s voice. “Another one?”

“No, really, this one is a sure thing, JC. This guy knows a guy who’s willing to bankroll us and…”

JC continued to smile and let Justin rattle on and on. He’d already decided it was time to move to Orlando, but hadn’t told Justin yet. He wondered if this opportunity was a real one. Oh well, he’d know soon enough.

“Justin.”

Justin paused.

“I’m coming home.”

Say goodbye to Hollywood
Say goodbye my baby.
Say goodbye to Hollywood,
Say goodbye my baby.
