Part 36

Lynn looked up from her book when she heard a knock at the door. She set the book down on the coffee table and stood up, removing her reading glasses and setting them on top of the book.

“Coming!” she called, hurrying to the door in hopes that it was Justin. When she swung the door open, her face fell into a frown. “Joshua.”

“Hi, Lynn,” he said flatly, hands shoved in his pockets. “We need to talk.”

“Oh, is that so? The way I look at it, you owe me an apology.”

Josh’s eyes nearly bugged out of his head. “What? I owe YOU an apology?”

Lynn nodded curtly, eyes burning into Josh’s.

“For WHAT?”

“For taking my baby away from me. For making him do things he’s not ready for. For setting him up for heartbreak.”

Josh couldn’t believe what he was hearing. There was no way she actually believed all these things, was there?

“You’ve got to be kidding me.”

“I most certainly am not. Justin was perfectly happy before you came along. In fact, he was even considering getting back together with that lovely boy Lance.”

“That lovely boy Lance is the one that broke his heart!” JC spat. “You said that yourself!”

Lynn rolled her eyes. “Well yes, but Joshua, Lance is a fine young man. He just had some growing up to do, and yes, Justin got hurt in the process, but I knew Lance would take him back in the end.”

“So I suppose you have no clue what happened when Lance came out to school, right?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“You wouldn’t be calling him lovely if you knew the truth.”

“What truth?”

Josh sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Let me in, Lynn. There’s some things you should know.”

Lynn stared at JC, gaping. “Lance did that to my baby? Again?”

Josh nodded. “Yeah. And I almost lost Justin because of it. Not so lovely anymore, is he Lynn.”

Lynn shook her head. “No. No, Joshua, he’s not.”

“Lynn, I know you’re trying to protect Justin. I know how much you love him, and I know you don’t want him to get hurt. But I love him. I love him more than anything, and I’m not going to hurt him. I’m sorry for what you walked in on…Justin…he gets a little frisky sometimes,” Josh said, his face flushed with embarrassment. “But he loves you, and it broke his heart when you said those things to him.”

“Oh, Joshua,” Lynn said, sighing. “I’m so sorry. I just…my baby is growing up so fast, and I’m so worried about him.”

“You don’t have to worry about anything, Lynn. I love him. I’ll take good care of him.”

“I have to make this up to him.”

“He’s really hurt. It’s going to take something big,” Josh said sympathetically.

“I already have an idea,” Lynn beamed. “And I think you’ll like it too, young man.”

Josh laughed, shaking his head. “Ok, Lynn. I’m going to go get Justin, ok? See if I can’t talk him in to coming back here.”

“Why don’t you two stay at that hotel for a couple days?”

Lynn suggested, digging into her purse before shoving a wad of bills into Josh’s palm. “That way I can make a few calls and get this set up.”

“Get what set up?”

“You’ll see,” she grinned, kissing Josh on the cheek. “Take good care of my baby, Joshua,” she said, suddenly serious.

“I will, ma’am. I promise.”

“Now get on out of here. I’ll be in touch.”

“Bye, Lynn,” Josh called as she shoved him out the door. He smiled to himself as he drove back to the hotel.

“What the hell took you so long?” Justin snapped, tossing the remote aside and crossing his arms over his chest.

“I…um…”

“Well?”

“Iwenttotalktoyourmom.”

“You WHAT?”

“I went to talk to your mom,” Josh sighed. “I needed to make sure everything was going to work out.”

“Josh, how could you? You know how much she hurt me! And then you run off and try to make amends!”

“Well of course I did, Justin! I saw how much it was bothering you, and I couldn’t take it, ok? I needed to fix it. Fix you.” He leaned forward and ran his hand over Justin’s head, offering him a small smile. “Forgive me?”

Justin sighed, closing his eyes. “Fine. I forgive you. But you owe me. Big time.”

“Big time, huh?”

“Yep,” Justin grinned, wiggling his eyebrows. “Naked. Now.”

JC could only laugh as Justin stripped him of his shirt.
