Part 24

Justin put a hand on Lance’s chest and shoved him hard, pulling away from the kiss and wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.

He shot up from the couch and backed away, anger burning deep in his stomach.  “What the fuck do you think you’re doing, Lance?”

Lance stood and walked towards Justin, one arm extended. “Justin, I—“

But Justin kept backing away, shaking his head. “No, Lance. Get away from me. I have to go. I have to…” he turned his back to Lance and rushed for the door.  “I have to go.”

“Justin, wait!” Lance called, running after the younger boy.  “I’m sorry, Justin, I am, wait!  Let me bring you back.”

Justin slowed his pace and stopped, looking over his shoulder at Lance. “You’ll bring me back? Now?”

Lance nodded and took a step closer.

“Fine. Let’s go.”

Not one word was spoken on the ride to the dorm, and Justin got out of the car and slammed the door without even saying goodbye.

Lance watched him walk away and sighed, cursing himself for coming on too strong too fast. This was never going to work if he pushed himself on Justin.

The ring of his cell phone shook him from his thoughts. “HELLO?” he snapped, irritation evident in his voice.

“Woah man, what bug bit your ass?” Chris asked, snickering. “You should be happy, the happy couple isn’t so happy anymore.”

“Yeah. I know. I was just with Justin,” Lance said, smiling.  “No sex, right, Chris? You didn’t fuck him, right?”

“No, Lancey, no sex.  He passed out before I could even get started. Anyway, I was calling about our arrangement.”

“I’ll be there in ten, with the money.”  He clicked the phone off and gripped the steering wheel, knuckles white.  The thought of Chris touching Justin made his stomach churn, but it was the only way.

Justin walked slowly down the hall, nervousness bubbling in the pit of his stomach when he saw that JC’s door was open.  He peeked his head inside, but JC wasn’t there.

Strange, the thought, scratching his head and opening the door to his own room.

JC was sitting on his bed.

“Josh!” Justin said, rushing towards him, relief washing over his body.

But Josh put a hand out and shook his head, pointing at the chair next to Justin’s desk.  Justin sighed and sat down, forcing himself to keep his eyes on Josh’s.

“How could you do this to me?” Josh said hoarsely, sadness in his eyes. “God, Justin…we made love two days ago…I thought you loved me…and then…”  He buried his head in his hands and cried quietly, wanting more than anything to feel Justin’s arms around him, all the while knowing that he would never feel that again.

“Josh, I swear to you…I didn’t know what was going on…I didn’t want it…I was drunk…”

Josh scoffed and glared at Justin through pained eyes.  “Nice fucking excuse, Justin.  I was drunk.  So that gives you a reason to cheat on the person you’re supposed to love, huh?”

“Josh, no, it’s not—“

“Nevermind, Justin. I shouldn’t have come here.  I should have just left well enough alone.”  He stood up, his body trembling, and walked toward the door.

“Please, Josh…” Justin whispered. “Please, you have to believe me.”

The plea fell on deaf ears, and Josh slammed the door on his way out.

“Hi, Joey,” Lance said as he walked through the front door.

Joey rolled his eyes before turning around and plastering a fake grin across his face. “Hey, Bass man, how’s it goin’?”

“All right, all right.  Chris around?”

Joey’s pleasant expression suddenly turned dark, and his eyes burned with rage.

“Um…ok…I guess I should go then.”

“No. You can stay, it’s him I have a problem with right now.  He’s upstairs, first door on the left.”

Lance nodded and thanked Joey before heading upstairs.  “You in here, Kirkpatrick?”

“Yeah, come on in.”

Chris was laying on the bed, shirtless, playing some video game that Lance had absolutely no interest in hearing about.

“Just a sec, man, gotta pass this level.”  He pumped a fist in the air, and victory music blared from the speakers. “Sweet.”

“Can we make this quick, please? I have places to be.”

Chris scoffed. “Yeah, like where? Pining after Justin.”

“Fuck off, Chris.”

“I’m just kidding, Lancey, don’t get your undies in a bunch.”

“Here’s your money,” Lance said, tossing a wad of bills at Chris.

Chris let out a low whistle as he counted the money, then grinned up at Lance. “Thanks, Bass. It’s been nice doing business with you.  If you ever need someone to drug your ex boyfriend, get naked with him in a bed, and set it up so his new boyfriend walks in again, I’m your man.”

Lance shook his head and rolled his eyes. “Yeah, whatever,” he muttered. “See ya later, Kirky.”

He walked out of Chris’s room and his heart stopped in his chest.

He was standing face to face with Joey.
