" Mom’
Just got finished hooking up my computer. You wouldn’t believe how fast the internet connection is here!
Anyway, I’m pretty much all settled - just a few more things to put away. I’m not sure what I’m going to do for the next week until class starts - hopefully something will come up. Maybe I’ll even find some people to shoot hoops with.
Just wanted to write and say that things are going fine. I love you.
Justin
He clicked the ‘Send’ button in the corner of the screen and sighed as he leaned back in his chair. He looked around the room that he would be calling home from now on.
It wasn’t too bad - sort of small, but he didn’t have to share it with anyone, and that was a plus. He had a great view of the courtyard, though, and he imagined that he’d probably be spending many a day sitting at the window and watching the people down below.
A knock at his door startled him, and he nearly fell off of his chair.
‘Who the hell’’ he muttered, rising to answer the knock.
When he opened the door, he almost fell again.
Standing before him was the most beautiful boy he had ever, in his entire life, seen. Sparkling blue eyes that danced and smiled at the same time, perfectly sculpted cheek bones, full pink lips, long hair that fell into his eyes’
‘Hey Justin.’
He snapped out of his daze and managed to mumble a hello back, frowning when he realized that the boy had called him by his name.
‘Uh hi. How did you’’
The boy laughed, then pointed to the blue square of construction paper taped to Justin’s door. ‘Says so right here. I’m Josh, I live across the hall from you,’ he said, pointing to the door behind him. He smiled, and Justin went weak in the knees. ‘Noticed that you’re new here, so I thought I’d pop in and introduce myself.’
‘Uh, yeah, thanks I’m Justin.’ He smiled, kicking himself on the inside for sounding like such an idiot.
‘So where you from, Justin’’
‘Tennesee uh, you wanna come in or something’’ When did I get so brave’ I don’t WANT anyone here to know I’m gay, remember’
‘Sure,’ Josh smiled, following Justin into the room and closing the door. ‘Sweet poster, man. You like Michael Jordan’’
Justin scoffed. ‘Like him’ Dude, I practically worship the ground the man walks on!’ Realizing that he just admitted to being obsessed with someone, Justin blushed, running his fingers through his thick golden curls.
‘So you play ball, then’’
Justin grinned. ‘Yeah. Well, I used to anyway.’
Josh frowned. ‘Used to’’
‘Yeah. Uh, senior year, I quit I yeah, I’d rather not talk about it.’
Josh nodded. ‘No problem, man. You don’t know me from Adam, I understand.’ He laughed and plopped himself onto Justin’s bed. ‘But you still play every now and then’ I mean, if someone were to challenge you to a game of one on one, would you be up for it’’ He wiggled his eyebrows. Justin decided that he would be up for anything that Josh wanted him to do.
‘Yeah, but whoever is challenging me better be prepared, because I was on my way to the NBA, baby!’
Josh laughed so hard he was clutching his stomach. ‘Ok, NBA, whaddya say you and I play a little In, say’’ he looked down at his watch and scrubbed the stubble on his chin. ‘An hour’’
‘You’re on. But like I said, be prepared to get your ass kicked.’
Josh laughed as he walked back to his room, and Justin grinned at his retreating back before locking his door and falling onto his bed.
As he slid his hands into his pants, he silently praised himself for choosing a single room.
Josh dribbled the ball three times before sprinting around Justin and shooting, grinning at the ‘swish’ sound the ball made as it dropped through the hoop.
He tossed Justin the ball and laughed. ‘Josh, 1, NBA, 0.’
‘We’ll see about that,’ Justin said, not even bothering to go around Josh. He shot the ball pumped his fist in the air when it went it.
‘So, Justin, what’s your major’’ Josh asked as he dribbled the ball in front of Justin.
‘Oh no, don’t go trying to distract me,’ Justin grinned, batting the ball away from JC before turning to score once again.
‘Justin 2, Josh 1,’ he laughed. ‘And I’m a business major.’
‘Business, huh’’
‘Yeah. I’m gonna be independently wealthy one day.’
Josh laughed, then frowned when he missed his next shot.
‘See, Josh, you shouldn’t have challenged me. Now you’re just embarrassing yourself.’
Josh stuck his tongue out at Justin and retreated to the bench, kicking the ball across the court.
‘What, you’re gonna quit on me’’
‘No. We’ll finish later. I just kinda feel like getting to know you right now.’
Justin heart fluttered in his chest, and he prayed that he wasn’t getting aroused when Josh’s leg brushed against his.
‘Ok. Whaddya wanna know’’
‘Well lets see I know you’re a business major I know you’re an awesome basketball player, I know where you’re from girlfriend’’
Justin shook his head, then blushed. ‘Nah I had someone back home but I got dumped.’
Josh clapped Justin on the back. ‘Hey man, happens to the best of us. I got dumped a few months ago too. But I figure I’m a young stud, so I’ll get plenty of chances to meet the right person.’
Justin laughed, and wondered if Josh knew just how right he was about the ‘young stud’ comment.
‘What about you What’s your major’’
‘Music. When I was a freshman, it was business. When I was a sophomore, it was psychology. Now that I’m a junior, I’ve decided to do what I really love, and that’s music.’
‘Like, singing, or writing, or what’’
‘All of it. Singing, writing, producing I got an internship at a local studio a few weeks ago, and I’m totally pumped about it.’
The sparkle in Josh’s eye when he talked about music made Justin want to kiss him.
No, Justin. You don’t want him to know you’re gay. Remember that.
‘And what else do you do besides EVERYTHING, Josh’’ Justin laughed.
‘I’m in Delta Chi, actually. It’s an awesome time. It’s great to know that you have a hundred guys that are your brothers and would do anything for you.’
‘You’re in a frat’’
Josh laughed. ‘Yeah, NBA. Does that shock you’’
Yes. It does. ‘I dunno I guess you don’t really strike me as the frat type.’
‘Not all frat guys are jocks! In fact, a lot of the guys in the house are music majors like me.’ He furrowed his brow thoughtfully. ‘We do have quite a few jocks though,’ he laughed.
‘You’ve been in the frat since you were a freshman’’
‘Yep, and I love it. It’s awesome, like I said.’ He scratched his head and looked at Justin, and suddenly his eyes lit up. ‘Dude, you should pledge!’
Yeah, wouldn’t that be great. A gay freshman joining a frat. I’m sure that would go over real well.
But before he could realize what he was saying, he agreed.
