*** He drove to a café he loved on the other side of town. Not many people frequented the place from the college so he didn’t expect to be interrupted by anyone. “Hey Marie” he greeted as he settled into his usual booth. “Morning handsome” the older woman smiled. “I’ll just have some of your oh! Buttermilk pancakes, some strawberries on the side, and can I get some chocolate milk to please?” “And here I was expecting you to order the usual eggs and coffee” she smirked. Justin got a little green at the mention of the eggs. “Uh not today thanks.” She left and Justin plugged his laptop into the convenient power and Ethernet sockets. Logging into his Internet account he composed an email to each of the doctors offices he’d selected asking for more information. Then went back to the school sites to review some of the things he saw before. He pushed away the papers and the computer when his food arrived and ate as he flipped through the pamphlets. Marie came by and collected the plates when he was done giving him a refill of his milk before leaving him again. He saw his inbox was lit up so he clicked. Mr. Timberlake, Dr. Bass and the staff of A Happy Place Obstetrics and Pediatrics. PS: If you wish to contact me further you can do so through email or phone. If you cannot reach me my associate will be more than willing to answer any questions you have. Justin couldn’t help but smile. He was glad that this office seemed to be so nice. It was in the city he most wanted to go to but he decided to hold off on confirming until he tied up the other loose ends. Picking up his cell phone he dialed the scholarship office of UT. “Hi I’m calling to speak with someone about transferring, and how that would affect my current scholarship.” He waited as he was transferred to an academic advisor. 20 minutes later. “Well looks like we’ve got everything all set. We’ll send your transcripts over to both of those schools. They should be letting you know within the week of the decision. You would be able to register for classes now since the courses you wanted are available as correspondence until you actually move. Looks like you would be able to still file for housing at your first choice but the second seems like they’re all filled up.” Justin jotted down notes in the margins of his paper. “Thank you for all your help Ms. Silva,” he said when they were done. Hanging up he looked over the information. He was slated to start classes there with the fall term in August if he decided, it was now July and he had until a month from now to confirm his attendance and classes. He took out a fresh sheet of paper and started writing down a list of things he would need for the baby and the apartment. Baby Essentials: Stroller, Blankets/ sheets for baby Bottles/ Formula Diapers Baby clothes Car seat Crib Since the apartment was furnished with a bed, tables, washer, dryer stove and refrigerator he was able to cut out a lot of the more expensive things most people need in new apartments. Apartment: Sheets Towels Silverware Pots and Pans Mop Vacuum Dishes Misc. Appliances Shower curtain He decided that most of the things on the list could wait until he actually moved. Who knows by some miracle things could turn out that Alex wants him and the baby to stay. Yea well he didn’t believe that any more than we do! Since most of the things in the apartment Alex had bought he knew there weren’t very many things aside from his clothing that belonged to him. He picked up the phone again and dialed the number to the apartment he’d been signed up at. “Hello. I’m calling to speak to someone about my moving in there. I was told to speak to a Megan Summers?” “This is Megan. Can I get your name please?” “Justin Timberlake.” ”Ok yes, I just received the fax from the offices there. Can you tell me what it is you needed?” “Well I want to find out how long I’d have to wait to move in. I was told it could be possible for an early date” “Well yes. We have some apartments that will be emptying out earlier than expected. I can have you in one of those fairly soon if needed.” “That sounds good. Would it at all be possible for me to call you back in a day or two to confirm?” “That’s no problem at all Mr. Timberlake.” ”Please call me Justin and thank you!” he said as he hung up. Finally done with all the things he’d needed to handle he gathered his things before heading back to the house, grabbing his books and going to campus. He sat through a lecture on business, and another on communications before he headed home at 4. Walking in he decided it would be good to grab a relaxing bath. He went upstairs and started a hot bath pouring in the bubbles he’d bought filling the room with a clean crisp woodsy scent. Lounging in the bath until the water started to chill he climbed out, dried off and dressed in a pair of old gray sweat pants and a loose fitting t shirt he loved sleeping these days. Knowing the semester would be over in a matter of weeks he decided to tell Alex that night what was going on that way he would have time enough to give notice to the proper places of whatever decisions he made. By 5:45 Alex was walking through the front door. Justin was just finishing up reheating the dinner he’d put away the night before when he came in the kitchen. They sat and ate with little conversation between them. As Justin cleared the table he watched Alex disappear to the bedroom to take a shower and change. When he came back down to the living room they sat on the couch turning the TV to a movie. “Alex I need to talk to you” “What is it?” “Well remember how I was getting sick?” ”Do I remember, yea you only puked on one of my favorite shirts Justin” he rolled his eyes in remembrance. Justin ignored the comment. “Well I went to the doctor the other day and well he told me something surprising.” Alex just looked at him with a blank expression. “Alex, we’re gonna…I’m pregnant.” He finally got out. Alex’s eyes narrowed. “What?”
