Where Warner Brothers Messed Up

Now this little section is my personal opinion of how the WB really screwed up this movie and made it unpopular among the general public.  this also sheds some insight as to the reasons why the WB seems to be willing to totally disown this movie.  You may not agree with me, or you very well may but if you have an opinion on this I'd love to hear it and if you'd like, I can post it here for all to read.   Yeah and make note that in some places on this site I'll spell "Ozzy" O-Z-Z-I-E.  Why?  Because I'm more used to that spelling since I use it in my fanfics all the time and the O-Z-Z-Y spelling reminds me too much of Ozzy Osbourne.   And no, I'm never going to stop complaining about the fact that Trendmasters never released the Osmosis Jones toy line.

Alright, first off I'll start by saying that in my opinion, this movie kicked serious ass and I loved it but there were some areas that the WB really messed up on.  They really should have made Osmosis Jones a PG-13 movie.   Why?  First this movie didn't seem to appeal too much to kids, it appealed more to pre-teens and teenagers.  The WB should have focused on that age group instead of trying to focus on younger kids and make this move "educational" and appealing to adults with children.  Originally (and yes I know this because I've read all of the interviews on this movie ever done.  It's pathetic I know but in the summer this movie came out I was online everyday looking for more info on it.) the movie WAS going to be PG-13.  They were going to have swearing, different and longer scenes and more violence.  For instance, the big battle between Thrax and Ozzy on Shane's eye was supposed to be a full five minutes long.   They cut that down because of the little kids.  As far as different scenes go, during the car chase scene (which in turn was going to a lot longer) they were going to have Frank's heart stop so that all of the cells would stop too and Thrax could plow through more things.  Of course, they didn't do that since they thought it would be too dramatic for the young audience that they were trying to appeal too.  For the swearing, they could have used a little bit in the movie.  They actually still could have put some in.  Take the movie "Ants" for example.  That movie is surprisingly PG.  I thought it was PG-13 until I looked at the back of the video.  They swear a bunch of times in that movie (stuff like damn and bitch).  As for the drama, that movie was full of it.   Like the whole termite vs. ant battle scene.  They had ants melting and screaming after being doused with acid.  They even had a talking, CG rendered, severed head that could blink!  Now if that isn't "scary" for little kids I don't know what is.  After looking at Ants I really don't see why they couldn't have done all of the cool things that they were supposed to do, even if they had to make it PG-13, which they SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE, they still should have done it.

Ahem, anyway next on the agenda is the live action.   Personally I think that the live action scenes really took away from not only the animation scenes, but the movie as a whole.  From all of the reviews I've read and from all of the people I've talked to, the majority has said that they liked the animation scenes alot better than the live action scenes.  Not to take away from anyone who did the live actions scenes, it's just that this movie would have been a lot better without them  I'm not sure if they should have gone with full animation but it would have been better.  The idea of mixing live-action and animation, while innovative, just didn't really work.  the public was deterred form this film mainly by the live action.  I can deal with the grossness of the film (that's what made it funny!) however, actually showing a pimple popping or the vomit scene really disgusted the majority of the audiences who saw this movie.  When I went to see this movie for the first time there were two girls who were sitting in front of me who would go "EWWWWWW!!!, "That's gross!" or "This movie is disgusting!" like every single time they showed something mildly gross in the live action scenes.  It was mainly because of the live action scenes that this film got an overall bad reputation and caused most of the reviews I read, to be negative towards this movie.  In those reviews they usually said something along the lines of "This movie was absolutely disgusting.  I don't recommend seeing it unless you have a strong stomach and enjoy the constant barrage of bodily humor that gets thrown at you."  And it was because of this negativity, that the WB didn't really endorse this movie after it had been released and probably the reason why TRENDMASTERS NEVER RELEASED THE TOYS!!!!  The only thing that the WB did do was create a wonderful cartoon series follow up to the movie, Ozzy and Drix but once again, it appealed to kids hence being on KIDS WB, the same network that brings us Pokeman and Cubix (*cringes* horrible show... never, ever watch it.... ever!).  I figure that if the WB didn't go with live action in the first place, the movie probably wouldn't have gotten such a bad rep and we would have our very own 8-inch tall Osmosis Jones or Thrax action figure to play with!
