PLACES

Cloudy Night at CTIO

APRIL/MAY 2011

Earlier this week I came back from another trip to South America. A month travelling around BOLIVIA and ARGENTINA. A long journey by land from LA PAZ to BUENOS AIRES, with stops in some of the most spectacular places on Earth. Will post some photos soon.

Human Planet

An awe-inspiring BBC series that marvels at mankind's incredible relationship with nature in the world today. Filmed in around 80 locations, it's a "cinematic experience" created by world-class natural history and documentary camera crews and programme makers. Simply awesome.

NOVEMBER 2010

After not having been able to go anywhere since I broke my shoulder in August, I have finally been given the all-clear to travel (hurray!) and with so many options but limited time, I have decided to hop on the Eurostar for a pre-Christmas weekend in BRUGES via BRUSSELS. I hadn't been back in BRUGES for a few years and it was awesome to see again so many of the old places I used to hang out at, like my favourite restaurant!, and also to discover a few new places and meet some cool people.

I'LL BE LOVING YOU ALWAYS

At the Jungfraujoch. May 2008.

JULY 2010

Can't seem to get enough of that country... Just escaped to COLOGNE for a few days and once again had a great time!

MAY 2010

Long weekend in FRANKFURT. Another excellent German break, I just love that country!. Sadly the Icelandic volcano failed miserably to delay my return home but I'm already planning my next visit!

Super toll!

Where the Hell is Matt?

The awesome classic by Matt Harding.

DECEMBER 2009

Eine fantastische Zeit in München

The run up to Christmas is driving me insane, but have managed to escape to GERMANY for a long weekend and I feel much better now. First time in MUNICH; freezing cold but loved every minute of it!.

Glühwein in Marianplatz, mmm...

SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 2009

Just spent three amazing weeks travelling in PERU, BOLIVIA and ARGENTINA. Coming back has been a lot harder than I could have ever imagined.

Anyway. I'm hoping to post some nice photos soon.

MARCH 2009

Haven't stopped since the new year started. Work and what not have just about taken over my life in the last couple of months, so a nice weekend in PARIS with friends has been an absolute Godsend.

NOVEMBER 2008

Back from two weeks in URUGUAY and ARGENTINA. Sun, beach, good food and lots of cousins! I have returned to The Cold in London with fully recharged batteries.

SEPTEMBER 2008

A short trip to Spain on family duty, but also an opportunity to catch up with old friends and do some sightseeing. Once again, several cities in just a few days, which means that I spent a significant and exhausting part of the time travelling from A to B. This time I went to SORIA and ZARAGOZA (home of EXPO '08) via Madrid. Lovely weather, excellent food and lots of photos.

Paseo de la Independencia. Zaragoza

MAY 2008

The last time I was left speechless by the beauty of a place I was in some National Park over ten thousand miles away from the UK and in a different hemisphere. It had never occurred to me that several hundred square miles of land in the heart of Europe could be made to look so much like the prettiest postcard I have ever seen.

SwitzerlandThen I went to SWITZERLAND...

MARCH 2008

Just got back to the UK after a three-week trip to AUSTRALIA and SOUTH KOREA. Travelled along Australia's East coast, indulged in a brief excursion to the Outback and spent a couple of days in SEOUL on my way back home. What an amazing part of the world.

AMSTERDAM. August 2007.

SUMMER 2007

More travelling... I am sure I have said this before: one of the best things about living in London is the opportunity to get away from it every so often; even for a couple of days!.

The summer started with a short trip to STOCKHOLM in July and a very generous invite to GLYNDEBOURNE at the start of August - I drunk stupid amounts of champagne on the lawn, mixed with the gentry and generally enjoyed the fabulous weather (very fortunate day it was). Oh, and I also saw a marvelous opera...

This was followed by a weekend in GLASGOW, for my birthday, three days in AMSTERDAM during the Bank Holiday weekend, and day trips to SEAFORD and ROCHESTER in September.

Not bad!.

PREVIOUS TRIPS

DECEMBER 2006
I decided to fly to sunny South America again, for most of December. This time it was beach time in BRAZIL, followed by another "tour" of ARGENTINA, and a swift visit to PUNTA DEL ESTE.

JULY 2006 / JANUARY 2007
Despite the almost unavoidable risk of having to spend longer than necessary at the pleasure of Eurostar, Paris vaut bien une messe, as Henry IV of France famously said. The French capital is still my favourite place to spend the weekend away from London. Eurostar and all.

AUGUST 2006
My first visit to LISBON. A fabulous city, perfect to celebrate my birthday. Loved being shown around by my friend Vicente, possibly the city's best ambassador.

DECEMBER 2003
My first visit to BRUSSELS and BRUGES. More impressed by the second than by the first, but definitely a great break before Christmas. Top moment: finding what's become one of my favourite restaurants in the world...

AUGUST 2003
Short visit to OSLO to celebrate a very special occasion. I had wanted to come here for a long time; it was great to see friends and discover some truly amazing places like the EMANUEL VIGELAND MUSEUM.

A BIG thumbs-up to the people who make the TIME OUT and LONELY PLANET guide-books. These have been a great help from the planning stage throughout the time I spent on the places to where I travelled. Very useful indeed and with plenty of accurate information, great tips and a wicked sense of humour!
