Weekly Top Three
Album of the Week: Jimmy Buffett "Live in Las Vegas"
Buffett's back on my list with his latest release, a purely spectacular live album recorded this year, in September, in Las Vegas. He released another live album recorded in Washington, but I do not have that one yet. I wanted to buy it, but my girlfriend forced me not to, claiming that I was buying myself all of her potential birthday gifts for me. Oh well, I can wait a few days.
Movie of the Week: "Casablanca"
One of my favorites, films don't get much better than this. You probably know what it's about, but I'll give you a synopsis anyway. Rick owns a cafe in Morocco during WWII, and people use the town as a way to escape the spreading Nazi regime. Suddenly, Rick's ex-girlfriend shows up, with a famed Allied hero, who happens to be her husband. Will he help her escape, or keep her in Morocco for himself? Again, it doesn't get any better.
Book of the Week: Screwball
David Ferrell's satire about the next big thing in baseball, who just happens to be a vicious serial killer, is a darkly funny novel about how far people will go to achieve their dreams. In this case, how much can the management of the Boston Red Sox endure in order to finally achieve a pennant? Will a few beheadings prevent the curse of the Red Sox? Hmmm, we'll see. It's a hysterical test of human morality, and a great, quick read.
