Your Horse
You get your horse from the Brownie Ranch. Go and work there and in a season and a half you should get it if you go EVERY day. You can't work when it's raining, though, 'cause "Horses hate the rain.".
(I think) There are 5 different horses you can get, the Red, Brown, Grey, Bay, and the Dark Brown. You will get the one with the highest affection rating toward you. You can tell whose highest because one day, instead of it saying "I wonder if it'll bite me..." it'll say something else. This happens with them all once they reach a certain point, but you can tell who likes you most by who reaches it first.
If you want a particular horse, choosing is simple. Every day you work there you have to put hay in the stalls, brush and talk to the horses and cow, and milk the cow. Instead, don't brush any of the horses but the one you want. You can still talk to them, but don't brush them. You still do "a good job" and it raises the affection of the horse you want above the others.
After you get your horse, it stays in your barn with your cows. You feed it just like you do the cows, by placing hay in its stall. When outside, you can let your horse graze in the pasture like you can the cows.
You can ride your horse anywhere except inside buildings, and if you get off your horse to go inside a building or to another area, it's still there when you get out (though it may wander around a bit in the area you left it).
Make sure you brush, feed, and talk to your horse every day!
