OVERVIEW

The Eagle F1 GS-D2 is Goodyear's ultra-high performance tyre incorporating technology acquired through the development of the Eagle Aquatro Formula 1 rain tyre and adapted to meet the requirements of road vehicles.

1) The tyre's main characteristics are its striking appearance with its sweeping directional tread design and exceptional levels of grip and steering response.

2) The directional tread design features grooves which follows the natural flow pattern of water thereby assuring that water is evacuated via the quickest and most efficient path.

3) The tread pattern features a tread shift arrangement which means that no two blocks enter the tyre's footprint at the same time. This means significant reductions in noise frequency levels.

4) The silica based tread compound allows the tyre to achieve exceptionally high levels of grip in both wet and dry conditions, improving wet braking, rolling resistance (and therefore fuel consumption) and roadholding at speed.

5) The Eagle F1 features a multi-radius tread contour which helps provide even pressure distribution across the road contact surface of the tyre, thereby maximising the amount of rubber in contact with the road. A further benefit is high levels of vehicle control, even at high speeds.

I haven't stopped grinning at the the performance of these tyres yet.  The grip right from new, out of the box was unbelievable and when the tyre did start to slide it did so with progression delivering plenty of feedback ensuring you know exactly what its doing at all times.  The tyre is easy to get upto temperature quickly and and maintain it.  The grip becomes even stronger really highlighting the GS-D2's potential. The GS-D2's have also quickened the steering and response which is very noticeable when you start to push on your favourite roads.

When the tyres limits are pushed, the break away is progressive and informative and it doesn't go to slip like other tyres would, it seems to just keep biting the road.

At speeds of upto 140mph, the tyres still inspire confidence as they seem to take anything you throw at them in their stride.  Under hard braking, the tyres don't feel squirmy or as they are flexing, they tend to retain good form delivering even more feedback to help the driver get the best out of his brakes.  The tyre wall seems to be just right, whilst not being excessively hard, they only move a little unlike lesser tyres which almost wobble like jelly.

WET WEATHER PERFORMANCE

I can't fault it.  The GS-D2 performs very confidently right from cold offering reassuring grip and cuts its way through water like it isn't there.  It also slices its way through puddles at high speeds with minimal fuss.  You end up finding yourself cornering at MUCH higher speeds than you would on a lesser tyre.

TYRE LIFE

To be commented on, but at the moment the GS-D2 seems to be holding up impressively to some serious abuse considering the level of performance they offer.

SUMMARY

Very impressive performance tyre with a phenomenal ability in dry, wet and greasy conditions.  The Eagle F1 GS-D2 is a good choice to have on any car and would suit performance front wheel drive cars beautifully and the driver can then choose to have GS-D2 on the rear as well or go for a slightly lesser tyre to make the car more tail happy and make it easier to drift.
