The I in Me
Generally speaking, I'm not a big fan of poetry. But since I've written all of the poetry on this page, I've made an exception. Enjoy!
Why
the pistol cracks
the games begun
the referee has rung the bell
the journey begins--the goal: in sight
the unknown trail/against the elements we fight
to reach the goal--the only cause
to succeed the only war cry
to add upon a lifetime of smiles
and take away the days of none
the gold we seek is here on earth
not in death or outside reach
it's in the goal achieved--the fight done
in the obstacle conquered--in the morning's sun
in the excitement growing--the love of knowing
that life is now--worth living--worth owning-and won.
Duty
The night grows and covers the base and the land
A single man on US soil stands
His mission protect the values he loves
Against the onslaught of the looter and of the club
He stands alone-his eyes quick-his ears searching
His fingers ready-his mind racing
His goal and his duty to himself is to search
Find the problems and if need be his superiors alert
His duty he knows is to guard and to keep
His value his love over seas fast asleep
His love is of life-of his dog-of his wife
That's why he's willing to go down, not without a fight
His father's a contracter-his mother's a teacher
His brother's in computers-his sister a shop keeper
He wants to return with their lives still intact
His future-his child's his-wife's--their deck stacked
Not because he hates life-but because he loves it
Does he stand watch abroad
Not because he hates man-but because he loves
The sanctity of life is his goal to guard
Daybreak
The day breaks cold and full of light
The trees frosted full of spite
The golden air flows through the breeze
Spilling over and over with a laughing tease
The flood gates open light pushing forth
Combatting the darkness through the sentinels glowing torch
Flaming arrows of life are shot through the sky
Beating through the woods as death starts to die
Erupting into the canvass of concrete and glass
Exploding through cities first slowly now fast
The golden rays ignite the day
Starting cars, razing sorrows, sending people on their way
