The Poetry corner, have a nice cup of tea and get mellow

Through Rose Colored Glasses

The sun shone in from a spotless window,
Shining directly upon his bed.
Said the old man, “The sunlight bothers me,
It reminds me that I’ll soon be dead.”

He looked deep into the eyes of his daughter,
“I love you my dear, I truly do.
Please draw the shades for me, my love,
The suns rays make me think of heaven, does it you?”

His daughter brought her hands to her face
As if she tried to hide.
She seemed to sob soundlessly,
He was touched by this and cried.

He tried to touch her face out of love,
But was wracked with so much pain.
He fell hard upon his back,
And was trapped there where he lain.

For an instant his color went pale,
“My god,” he thought, “I’ve lost my sight.”
His aged frail hands gripped the sides of his bed,
And he squeezed with all his might.

He felt the attack subside,
It came, and then quickly it left.
Immense sorrow welled up inside,
When he saw how his daughter had wept.

Once calmed down he admired,
There was courage in the deathwatch deed.
His daughter kept crying harder,
So to god he began to plead.

He prayed, “Please sir, forgive my sins,
And gladly I’ll pay my dept.
Just spare my little girl from this tragic pain.
Oh, how much she’s wept.”

“I’d be lying if I said I were brave,
Lord I’m scared, as any person would.
Let my life slip easily, and then I’ll be with my wife,
That is my strength, the only good.”

As if on cue a cloud passed over the sun.
Gentle rain swept through earth and wind.
It seemed to him, god had heard his plea,
And sent water to wash away his sin.

Said the old man, “I swear you shall never be alone,
Now be brave and let me see your face a while.”
She looked up and immediately he passed away,
For it shocked him to death to see her smile.

“Thank god,” she laughed, “He’s done died.
Oh Father, how could you be so foolish, so crass?
How could you know I felt more alone,
Living with you, you wretched white trash?”

“You dirty old fool, you silly old man.
It strikes me remarkably funny…
I laughed at you thinking me helpless,
Now that I’ve got all your money.”

“I was laughing so hard, watching you die,
Laughing to see such misery and pain.
I prayed so hard and it took so long,
I thought I might drown you in the rain.”

The Highway

Somehow, in the rush to get out
of my home, to get away from my life,
I left behind stress and animosity.
Then the highway engulfed me,
the marvelous length of gray propelled me
to participate in adventure.

Settled into the routine of prolonged destination,
I tried to admire the monotony
of lines, landscapes, and horizons.
Then the highway engulfed me,
drowsing me every few seconds and
encouraging a brief sleep.

Someone leaned on their horn and I jolted
out of sleep, coming back to real life,
keeping my car on the straight path.
Then the highway engulfed me,
drawing me, once again to my journey,
testing my limits

Then the highway engulfed me,
and my destination was horribly too far away.
And I chose to turn around,
to adventure another day.
