Inspiration
Tendrill have many influences, not
all of them metal - as is the case with most people nowadays.
All of the bands and artists mentioned
here have played a part in the development of our sound.
First and foremost of any band that
can claim to be the most influential on us is the mighty
Black Sabbath, but then this is
true of most of our generation too. Unlike most of the current
crop of metal bands ( or whatever
you wish to call it ) Tendrill do not seek to mix low-slung
guitars with a dose of hip-hop .
This list is by no means definitive, but includes a cross-section of artists who bring inspiration to us by being true to themselves, regardless of genre.
Warrior Soul / Tool / Kyuss / King Crimson / Blue Cheer / Massive Attack / Dinosaur Jr / Mudhoney / Corrosion Of Conformity / Crowbar / Jane's Addiction / Saigon Kick / Carcass / DJ Shadow / Dan The Automator / Clutch / Morphine / Liberator DJs / Lab 4 / Mad Professor / Kerbdog / Air / Thievery Corporation / Metallica / Cathedral / Pantera / Lostprophets / Gary Numan / Depeche Mode / Pitchshifter / A Perfect Circle / Queens Of The Stone Age / Monster Magnet / Down / EyeHateGod / New Order / The Cure / Boy Hits Car / Anyone / Stone Temple Pilots / Deftones / Nirvana / Sleep / Orange Goblin / Entombed
This list could go on but this should give you a fair idea of what we listen to.
For those of you with wider musical landscapes Jericho recommends:
Stay Up Forever Records
DJ Die / DJ Krust
Any Acid Techno / Trance ( see Liberators
/ Lab 4 )
Mo Wax Records
Handsome Boy Modeling School
Rennie Pilgrim / Adam Freeland
Jeff Mills
BB King
BT ( not the phone company )
Tori Amos
etc
What this list should serve to illustrate is that there are quality tunes out there if you bother looking. Don't just rely on what the trade magazines tell you are good.
Good hunting..
