Parents worried about polls in schools
Parents in the town of Hudson, Mass are worried that polls in public schools are potential terrorist targets and have started a petition to have them move. How scared are people? Hudson, Massachusetts is a terrorist target? Obviously, people are scared witless. The question to me is why are they scared? 9/11? Well that we three years ago, and regardless of if you feel safer or not nothing of that scale, or close to that scale has happen since. No terrorist attacks at the Super Bowl. No terrorist attacks at the Olympics. No terrorist attacks at the Statue of Liberty, Big Ben, the Kremlin, or the public schools of Hudson. What keeps us scared? The administration of George W. Bush. And the average American's lack of knowledge about terrorism and world affairs in general.
The President and his handlers have kept the fires of fear burning, but we fan the flames. With illogical panic, with conclusions based on sound bites and incorrect or imcomplete information, with an us-against-them attitude that's only certain to lead to more deaths. When people let themselves be controlled by fear it leads to McCarthy hearings, bomb shelters that never get used, segegration...and letting religious zealots take over your country.

So wait? Where have I been? Playing
City of Heroes? Bitching about politics? Messing up my computer over and over again, losing all my mp3's, documents, and software? Would you believe a little of each? Thought so.

Fahrenheit 911
I had thought. What if instead of complaining about this movie, the right wing created a documentary of their own? Why don't we see political films like this every election year? The U.S.A. needs more intelligent debate between it's citizens (not the unintelligent, sound bite driven debate from politicions), and perhaps a series of revelant politically minded will help do that. If you live outside the United States, it's difficult to understand how polarized this nation is right now. There are those who believe our administration is the right thing. And there are those you believe our adminstration is making some of the worse choices possible. And a lot of the nice, polite political commentary we often hear is being replaced, "They lied to us." Thank god for that because I believe the time for polite commentary is...never. When the stakes are as high as they are now, a decision to effect our nation, and as we've seen, the world, it's time to blunt, honest, and critical.

Seamless
I read this a couple weeks ago and thought it was very cool. My new job is selling clothing and I'm learning a ton about fabric. The idea of making clothes with no seams is really amazing and that's exactly what Issey Miyake is doing. He's created a process that 'prints' garments and allows them to cut out of a sheet and worn. No sewing involved. Very neat but I still want my jet pack.

Hughes blasts Kerry's Vietnam comments
A few days ago Meet the Press replayed a 1971 interview with John Kerry where spoke about 'atrocities' he had seen committed in Vietnam. I saw a bit of it and thought it was really a brave thing for him to say, but thought it was weird that this was coming up 33 years later. Now the Bush adminstration is calling on him to explain the comments he made back then. What baring does this have on current issues facing the country? Bush's war record is suspect and attacking Kerry on something like this just seems cheap. And desperate. Maybe Dubba and Company are getting nervous? One-term father, one-term son?

Kim over at Unlikely Heroes finally updated his site and is harassing me about not updating? Pot. Kettle. After all he could update this site if he wanted. Some of us are just lazy.

Why no updates? Because I got into this beta: City of Heroes and found myself totally addicted. You run around as a super hero and fight crime and...that's it. It has the fasted pace combat of any MMORPG I've played and everyone class has been a blast to play. I know it's won't be everyone thing, but if it sounds the least but appealing do yourself a favor and check it out.
