Tournament Report by Moto Vitoy

Who would ever believe that Unicorn would win last tourney. Well, it did happen and here's my report:

I was using a Unicorn-Yodin-Kaneka deck, which did great against pre-tourney playtests... I was off to Arena!

Rd 1
vs Felix (Dragon-Kisada-Tsudao)
I was surprised that he was not using the anti-Cav house, only to find out that he has none. This practically won me the game as I was evading duelists left and right. Gaheris appeared before I was able to destroy his last province.
1-0

Rd 2
vs JD (Fox-Kaneka-?Sensei)
Well, I was stumped to see a first turn Akuma. And was stunned when he conceded the game because of technicalities. Nice game JD, after this game I was hoping for a rematch.
2-0

Rd 3
vs Chris (Fox-Sezaru)
Another Fox, I was thinking that this would be another military deck. Well, it was -- sort of. His PK strategy, was working out fine when Slaughter of the Imperial Court showed up, bowing his shugenja and a Kolat-Mastered Asami. He also made a mistake of resolving provinces first, so a Kamoko-Rally-Shinjo finished most of his provinces.
3-0

Rd 4
vs Dan (Crab-Kaiu-Sezaru)
Knowing what Dan's deck is using, I opted not to use Yodin. Kisada's Funeral showed up early, so I was making sure that if I would attack, I would destroy his provinces. Unfortunately, it backfired and he was able to pull out the Ring of Earth.
3-1

Rd 5
vs Francis (Lion-Hantei-?wind)
His first turn Gohei reminded me of the old days. I was not obviously going to win after I noticed that his peeps were getting followers. I defended my last province, and what did I get? Stand Against the Waves!
3-2

Semis:

vs Ryan (Scorpion-Taka-Sezaru)
In the last turn, after he was all geared up on PK strategy his next turn, Final Words saved my butt! I attacked his last province and had a Moment of Brilliance to destroy his last province and defender.

vs same Francis of Rd 5
It was a fast game. At turn 4, I was down to one province with a 9F Tetsuko plus MedCav and a little Kamoko. He was down to 2 provinces with Gohei plus Spearmen and another peep. I attacked, and would definitely opt to go against his army, but he decided not to defend. I took out both provinces boosting Kamoko with Charge and her personal terrain...

Finals:

vs same JD of Rd 2
I wanted a rematch, so I got the rematch! He ran out of followers to feed Akuma exp., so I was able to bring Tashima out. After lobbying, Kaneka saved me, revealing Tetsuko in my provinces. Next turn, my peeps were destroying provinces consistently that won me the game.

A first for me.
A first Yodin deck Champion.
Let Kaneka rule Rokugan!

To Gelo, and the rest of the organizers, thanks for such a worthwhile tourney (especially to the 4 winds format). :)
