BELTANE
Northern Hemisphere: May 1st
Southern Hemisphere: November 1st
(Pronounced "BELL' tAne")
Meaning of the Sabbat:
At this time of year, the coldness, darkness,
and death of Winter gives way to Summer.
Beltane is the "Orgasm" of the year; the coming together of the Lady as Maiden of Springtime and the Stag Lord as the lusty forest King. Young animals abound, and the Earth is a riot of color, as flower and tree reach toward the fiery Sun.
Now is the time of year when the Green Goddess --"Mother Nature"-- brings life back to the Earth. Buds burst on the trees, flowers push their way upward toward the Sun, and birds sing all day long as they mate and build their nests.
"The start of Summer is here at last, and the vigor of Life surges everywhere; the days are longer and the promise of warmth and light (that seemed so distant in the dark days of Winter) is now fully realised. The dark half of the year is over, and the Goddess begins her reign.
All life hears the sweet call of the Lady of Summer as She draws near to us. Now that the Sun is a proud, strong Lord ablaze in the heavens, the Lady rules over our sacred lands and we welcome the Summer months with joy and love; our hearts sing to the Lady and we rejoice in the light and warmth of the Green Earth.
