GCW
Invades,
Wrestling Zone, 6/2/01

The Egobusters, Inc. 2001 GCW tour kicked off tonight, June 2nd, with a stop in Peoria, IL. The show was the Wrestling Zone and the biggest news of the night was the invasion by GCW. These fans were treated to their first look at some of GCW's finest wrestlers, and I feel that they were not disappointed. Oh, and of course, there were other wrestlers on the card too, but thats neither here nor there. The Egobusters Van had yours truly Crippler, that Bird, Nature Boy, Woman, and Cousin Jimmy to come out and support GCW. The next stop in the Egosbusters tour 2001 will be in Butler, Mo. I hope to have photos from this card up by Monday night so be sure to check back.

Show introduction: (the ring announcer was Brian Stull of the Stranglehold, and he, as always, did an excellent job. GCW referee CJ McManus also made the journey and his officiating was top of the line.) The show opened up with C.W. Anderson coming to the ring. He declared that Jerry Lawler was suppose to wrestle him tonight but was too scared to show up. He felt that there wasn't anyone who was man enough to wrestle him. Tommy Dreamer came down to ringside accompanied by some lovely Hooters' girls. Mr. Dreamer made it be known that he would be glad to wrestle C.W., and would do so right away. C.W. Anderson informed him he was not ready and made his way to the back. Thus, a main event is born.

Match 1: The Irish Luchador Billy McNeil defeated the Alaskan Heartthrob Jack Adonis who was accompanied by the lovely Sugar. Sweetest move of the night goes to Mr. Adonis who did a sharpshooter on Billy while stretching him on the ropes, similar to him doing the sharpshooter to Billy through a chair at the Anniversary show. However, Billy was on fire on this night, and finished Jack with his patented, modified frog splash.

Match 2: The Diamond Back Dingo defeated Ryan Ash after a Dingo Driver. A great match that had many close pinning combinations. In the end, the thunder from down under got the victory. We never doubted it.

Match 3: Chris Chetti pinned Chilly Willy with a sit down DVD.

Match 4: NEW CHAMP: Beautiful Bobby (?) defeated Little Kato to become the NEW midget world champion. Bobby won with a frog splash. That's about all I remember about that because it was a pretty weak match.

Match 5: Balls Mahoney got the best of the Kingpin of GCW, Big Bad Ben. A brutal, hardcore match that saw both men bleeding profously. This match was a Peoria Streetfight (a what?????) and after a leg drop onto Ben who was laying on a table, it was enough for Balls to get the pin. BBB obviously was the shining star in this match. He took a beating and kept on coming to return a beating. The Egobusters chants of "GCW" echoed through the exhibit hall.

Match 6: After intermission, The Harris boys lost to Public Enemy. In perhaps the most shocking and brutal match of the night, all competitors seemed to get quite a beating. At one point in the match, Cousin Jimmy got cut open after one of the Harris boys threw, in anger, a piece of cardboard type wood at his direction. Needless to say, Jimmy took one for the team. Johnny Grunge got the pin with a rollup on one of the Harris boys, while Rocco Rock was going back-first onto the other Harris boy through a table on the outside of the ring. Just a vicious match that spilled out into the crowd and everywhere else.

Match 7: Nova beats Kid Kash using some sort of strange roll up to pin him. A good technical match that saw many good spots and quick pinning combinations.

Match 8: Tommy Dreamer pinned C.W. Anderson after a DDT. This match saw a ladder, chair, and other means of pain being used. C.W. Anderson should have won because we all saw Dreamer tap out early in the match. But C.W. just couldn't find what it took to defeat Tommy Dreamer.

Overall, a very good card. This show was more entertaining then many WWF shows that I've seen recently. Most of the matches were excellent and all wrestlers worked their butts off to entertain the fans. When the Egobusters heard that GCW would be invading, then we all knew it was a must see and traveled the near 200 miles to see it in person. Next up, TV tapings on June 16th.
