News Letter for the 26th November 2001
TO ALL FAMILIES 26th November 2001

WELCOME
Welcome to everyone, including all the new families who are looking for the first time. For those who are new tonight, we have copies of basic information in the office to give out about the athletic competitions available for the children and the fees by age group. Proof of children's ages(such as Plunket Book) will be required with enrolment forms.

UNIFORMS
Because on increases in the price of materials, the cost of shorts is now $22.00 and the shirts are $20.00. We also sell club T-shirts (a white shirt with the club logo) - see Dianne Larsen for details. Last year the cost was $10.00 each. We place an order with the supplier every time we have 10 confirmed orders from parents.

COLGATE GAMES
We have 29 children going to the North Island Colgate Games of 4-6 January at Wanganui, with 36 people travelling on the bus.

RAFFLE
The club is organising its own raffle, something we have not been required to do in the past but now needed to do to help club travel funds and pay for the increased charges at Porritt Stadium. The tickets are not expensive, the prizes are gift vouchers for The Warehouse at Hillcrest, and it will be drawn before Christmas. Please support it. Printing of the tickets were kindly sponsored by John Walker Printers, Norton Road.

TRAINING
Hamilton Hawks have invited our 12-14 year olds to their coaching sessions on a regular basis. This Wednesday, from 5.30-6.30pm, they will be concentrating on the Triple Jump. There is also regular training at 10.00am on Sunday mornings which I highly commend.

Thank you to Brett Addison of Hamilton Hawks for assisting with the discus last week. Children benefited from his years of skill and knowledge.

CLUB PROGRAMME
The programme will be amended for the next two weeks to give everyone some practice at relay training. This means that the 7-9 year olds will be on the track from 6.00-6.30pm and the 10-14 year olds will be having their practice from 6.30-7.00pm. This will give everyone practice for the relay championships. The children will be asked to advise of their availability for the 8 December.

There are entry forms at the office for anyone wanting to enter the Walk Championship at the relay championship. The 12-year-olds do 1000 metres and the 13-14 year olds do 1500 metres.

TRANS TASMAN
Michael Fowke and Joshua Docas have been selected to part of the Auckland Trans Tasman team to compete against New South Wales in January. Congratulations and all the best from the club.

COACH EDUCATION
The sprint course was held last Sunday and was attended by six of our club parents. It was taken by Janette Wise of Sport Waikato and was a full-on course for more than three hours that covered warmups, sprint drills, technique, training, starting (including with blocks), hurdles, and relays. I am told that it was extremely good value.

A reminder that the long jump course will be on 9 December. Even if you do not have a Level 1, the club will subsidise you so that it is $15.00 for everyone. For confirmation and more information, contact Don Willoughby at 827 8051 / 025 757 523.

RIBBON DAY
Last Saturday, the Ribbon Day was at Te Awamutu. We had 26 children present, and Fairfield parents did timekeeping, and assisted at shot put, high jump, discus, and shot put. The weather was changeable with a couple of skiffs in the morning but mostly warm.

This Saturday, the Ribbon Day is at the Paeroa Domain. For those viewing this newsletter on E-mail, turn left after the bridge over the Ohinemuri River, turn right on to the road to Thames, and then first road on the left.

On 8 December is the Waikato / Bay of Plenty Relay Championships at Porritt Stadium. This is a huge day with up to 400 children present. Fairfield will be setting up the grounds and running the shop.
